17: Promises

"You fucked up hard."

Marinette was confused. "Wha- why what happened?"

"Someone used the Moth miraculous."

"WHAT?"

Adrien took his phone out and showed a news article to Marinette.

"Today, Lila Rossi announced that she was gonna be the new Hawk Moth since Ladybug and Chat noir are in New York studying. Alya Cesaire, the temporary miracle box guardian was nowhere to be found. The mayor asked for all civilians to stay in their homes, until the situation is handled."

Marinette dropped the phone and started walking in circles. "This is my fault, all my fault. What if Alya is dead because of me? Ugh, I should never have left. Tikki was right."

Tikki flew out of Marinette's little purse. "See, I told you so."

Marinette ignored Tikki and sat down. She hoped this was all a nightmare. So many questions flew through her head, but one of most importance. "Hey..how did they even know Alya was the temporary miracle box guardian. She didn't tell anyone."

Adrien went to sit next to her and opened the news. 

"Don't be bemused it's just the news. A few hours ago, Lila Rossi, also known as Hawk Moth's accomplice, used the moth miraculous after the word spread out that Hawk Moth himself died. Lila Rossi announced through a video her accomplice. 

Warning, the footage may be triggering for some people."

Marinette and Adrien watched as they saw Lila blabber about stuff. They they saw Alya appear on screen.

"Alya?"

"That's right folks. Alya Cesaire is Lila Rossi's accomplice. Ladybug, wherever you are, help us."

Marinette stood up. "I have to go."

"But you're studies? You can't just run away to Paris in the middle of the year."

"Adrien, Lila literally became Hawk Moth! I can't just do nothing!"

"I get that but rela-"

"No you don't! I trusted Alya and she just gave something away. The last thing that Master Fu gave to me. I trusted her! And now she's probably gonna kill everyone in Paris with Lila, so don't tell me to relax!'

Marinette ran out of the dorm and entered hers. Amber and Thomas both looked confused.

"Mari? What happened?"

Marinette kissed Amber on the lips. "I love you okay, but i have to go to Paris."

"Wha- what happened?"

Adrien stormed in the dorm. "Marinette you can't just go like that."

"I have to go!"

Amber walked up to amber and took her by her arms. "But why do you have to go?"

Marinette turned her head to Adrien. He knew that look. "Oh nononono don't you dare."

"I'm Ladybug."

"Marinette!"

"Whoa, YOU'RE Ladybug?"

"I- I yes, i am."

"Holy freaking shit, my girlfriend is a superhero."

Thomas sat up from his bed. "Hold on, when did yall become a thing?"

"Doesn't matter. I have to go."

"Hey, if you're going, i'm coming."

"Adrien no-"

"hey, you're not the only superhero here."

"Yo, my best friend is Chat Noir?'

Marinette facepalmed. "I can't let you come with me. It's my mess."

"We're partners. I can pull a few strings saying we can't come for a few months."

Marinette sighed. "okay, let's go."

Marinette was packing her bags when Amber came in with chocolates. "Here."

Marinette took the chocolates, confused. "What are these for?"

"Well, i don't know how much you'll be gone. And the flight is long. so you'll have something from me."

Marinette smiled but saw Amber having tears in her eyes."

"Hey hey hey, what's wrong?"

"Please don't get yourself killed."

Marinette smiled and reassured her, but amber wasn't convinced. "I've never had a superhero girlfriend and I don't want it to be this short. I really love you. I want at least once a day a call just to hear your voice and to know you're okay."

Marinette chuckled. "Okay okay, i will."

"Promise?"

"Yes, promise. I will not get myself killed."

Amber was reassured this time. "I will miss you."

"I'll miss you too. I can't say when I'll come back, because i personally don't know. But we will call."

Amber started crying which made Marinette cry as well. They started hugging and remained like that for a few minutes.

"the door opened and Adrien appeared. "Hey Marine-" he saw Marinette and Amber hugging and decided to leave the alone. She'd come when she was ready.

Marinette broke the hug and wiped her tears. "Look, I really gotta go. Keep Thomas out of trouble."

Amber chuckled. 'You got it."

Marinette kissed Amber and closed the door and met Adrien in the hallway. "Let's fuck over some bitches."
