5: Bad News

Marinette opened her eyes and saw a sleeping Amber next to her. She was sleeping so peacefully. She looked at her watch.

8 am.

Her class starts in 3 hours so she had time to dress and eat something. She wasn't gonna be late this time.

Hopefully

She looked at her suitcase next to her bed. Yesterday, she did everything but unpack it.

She tried getting out of bed without waking Amber and went to Adrien.

Marinette knocked on his door but no response. Is he still sleeping?

She opened the door and saw he was calling with his father. He was crying when he saw Marinette enter.

"Uh by father, I'm gonna call you later, I have company." he finished the call and wiped away his tears. But Marinette wanted to know why he was crying at 8 in the morning.

"Adrien, why are you crying? What happened."

He sighed. "Nino got in a car accident and is in a critical condition."

Marinette gasped and dialed Alyas number.

"Hello?" a crying Alya could be heard at the other side of the line.

"Alya, I heard about Nino!"

"O- oh Marinette. Hi. He- he didn't get into a car accident. Mr. Agreste only said that to not make it sound worse than it is. But Nino tried to kill himself."

Marinette dropped her phone and fell almost on the floor if Adirien hadn't seen it coming and he offered her a stool before she'd fall on the floor.

"Marinette? Marinette!" she hadn't hang up the phone and Alyas voice was still heard through the phone.

Adrien picked it up. "Alya? Marinette is not available right now."

"Oh uh okay. She'll tell you what I told her. I can't tell you though." Alya quickly disconnected leaving a questioning Adrien behind.

Adrien looked at Marinette who had tears in her eyes. He wasn't gonna pressure Marinette with details.

He turned to the clock on the wall. 9.30

They had to be fast if they wanted to grab a bite.

Amber woke up and saw the place next to her empty. Fuck.

She saw Thomas on his bed writing on his laptop not caring there was a girl in Marinette's bed.

"Hey, uh where-"

"She's gone to Adrien if you're asking about Marinette. Don't worry, I won't tell her your crush."

"Wha- how do you know that?"

Thomas finally looked up. "Amber, we're friends for 2 years. You also started talking in your sleep."

"Shit. Do you think she heard me?"

Thomas started laughing. "Marinette? No, she was in dreamland."

"Okay good." Amber got out of the bed. "Thanks for not telling."

"Hey, I ain't no snitch." Thomas winked. "Oh, and at least commit to that relationship."

"I don't even think she's into girls."

"Well, if you two do end up together, don't let it happen like it did with us."

Amber rolled her eyes and left the dorm. She opened the door and saw Marinette on a chair crying in her hands and Adrien on his bed, trying to comfort her.

"Hey hey what happened?"

"Well, Nino got in a car accident, but Alya told Marinette something new and she's been like this for three minutes. Where even have you been?"

"Uh, I slept at Marinette's." Amber went to her bed and put on a blue top."

"Oh God, did you sleep in your bra?"

"Wha- let's focus on Marinette. She needs us."

Adrien sighed and focused himself on Marinette. "Hey, look at me, can you look at me?"

Marinette looked up. There were mascara strains under her eyes.

Adrien didn't know what was happening with him, but he felt attracted to this heartbroken Marinette.

"Nino tried killing himself."

That was it. Four words to kill the mood. The three of them just sat there in silence.

Because who would have fun when you heard that your friend tried killing themselves.

Adrien was the first to say something. "Did he say why?"

"Alya said that he couldn't take that everything was changing."

Adrien nodded. They just sat there in silence, no one saying anything.
