Brooklyn Monáe Banks| Brook
📍STL – MO📍

"Brooklyn, would please lift your head. I will not be saying it again. The next time you're going to ISS." Ms. Johnson, my teacher, warned, as I started lifting my head from off of my desk.

I was more of what would some would call the 'quiet kid', at my school. I rarely spoke unless I was spoken to, which was very rare. Nova and Destiny, my best friends, were the only ones I spoke to on a regular basis at school.

"Okay, class! Listen up! .... Graduation is coming up very soon, and as you may know you'll need twenty-four credits to graduate."

"Some of you are a bit behind on your work, so let's try to work on that and get everything turned in as soon as possible." Ms. Johnson began speaking until the lunch bell rang, leading the students to rise up.

"NO! NO! NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!" Ms. Johnson started yelling and rushing towards the classroom door, so that students wouldn't leave out.

"I dismiss you all, not the bell— and you guys know this! Everybody sit down!" Ms. Johnson demanded, making everyone sit down with their attitudes well shown.

"Why she always tryna do dat shit? Over here treating us like a bunch of slaves n' shit." A student in the class made a statement that elicited a few laughs from the other students.

"So, Kingston." Ms Johnson looked in his direction with a stern look at her finger pointed. "Since you feel I treat you and the rest your classmates like slaves, why don't you stay back to in class for lunch and discuss it with your mother? The rest of you are dismissed."

When Ms Johnson opened her classroom door, I looked for Destiny and Nova on my way to the cafeteria so that I would not have to sit alone.

"The hell are they doing..?" I murmured as I stood in the same area as all other days.

Destiny arrived soon after, but Nova had yet to come— so we simply got our food and sat down.

"I wonder where Nova lying ass at. That ho never miss school." Destiny said, as she sat down and chewed on her bag of chips.

"On bro. Her ass probably doing something she got no business doing." I chuckled a bit.

"Y'all sitting at our table. Imma need y'all to get up.." Some girl approached us and said,

"C'mon get up." She waved her hand in a direction opposite from the table.

I looked around because her ass couldn't of been talking to us...

"I don't see yo name or anybody else's on this mothafucka." I remarked while I sarcastically searched for a name, making Destiny laugh.

One thing about me, I wasn't gonna let anybody talk to me any kind of way. I was quiet not scared. If I had to take up for myself that's just what I was gonna have to do. Period.

"Right. Fuck she thought this was?" Destiny questioned, while she started dying laughing. "I can't take you ho's serious."

"Bri, why they playin' wimme? They must not know who I am." The unknown girl chuckled bitterly, as she started talking to her friend.

"I really don't know who you are.... And I honestly do not care." I gave a shrug and went back to eating on my lunch.

The girl approached me from behind, leading Destiny to rise and our friend Nova to take a position in the center of us.

"Where the hell you been at, babygirl..?" I thought to myself.

"Niyah, why you all up in her face like that? The fuck..?" Nova inquired, confusedly.
