'Dad?'
I headed downstairs to see if I could find my dad. I thought he would be home by now. Disappointed he hadn't returned yet, I walked over to kitchen cabinet. There was some good stuff on the top shelf but I couldn't reach it. I was too small. I grabbed a chair and tried to reach for the candy. I had climbed all the way up. Very quietly. I am good at not making any noises. I love to startle people. Being only sparkling is not easy.
'What are you doing?'
I fell off the counter and started crying in pain. 'Oh, sweetie.' Mommy picked me up and hugged me, rubbing over my arm. 'What did I tell about climbing?' She asked. I leaned into her. 'I should ask for candy,' I sobbed. She kissed my helm and comforted me. 'You're so stubborn lovely,' She whispered. 'I just wanted some candy,' I said quietly. She hummed and picked up, holding me on her hip while reaching out for the top shelf. 'There isn't much I can hide from you, huh?' She asked. A watery smile appeared on my face. 'Here...' she handed me some candy and placed me on the counter.
While I started eating and forgot about the pain, she pushed the chair back. 'I love you, Mirage.' She rubbed my helm tenderly. 'I love you too, mommy.' She placed me back on the ground when I ate the last bit of my candy. 'You wanna watch some TV?' She asked. I nodded and sprinted over to the couch. 'Do you think daddy will be home soon? He promised me to go to lake,' I chirped. 'I bet he will,' she said and sat down beside me. I crawled on her lap and snuggled into my carrier while she turned on the TV.
We watched TV together until the front door opened. I jumped off the couch and my mother's lap. 'Dad!' I chirped and hugged. 'Ah, my big boy.' He picked me up and kissed my helm. 'You have you been good for mommy today?' He asked. I nodded while he carried me back to the living room. 'Hi, sweetspark.' He kissed her lips softly. 'Gross!' I giggled and slapped my dad softly. 'When you are big, you'll understand,' he teased and placed me back on the ground.
'I don't want a femme. I would never kiss a femme,' I stated. My dad laughed and ruffed my helm. 'Why am I not big? I am a big mech already!' I stated and made myself larger. 'Of course you are, sweetie,' dad said. A smile formed on my lip plating. 'Why don't you go upstairs so I can have a talk with mommy?' He asked. 'We would go the lake, right?' I asked. 'Yes, of course. I just need to have a little chat with your mother first,' he said. I nodded and sprinted upstairs. I didn't enter my room but slammed the door shut and quietly sat down on the stairs.
'I got fired today, Tempest.'
'What? Why?' My mother sounded shocked. 'They replaced me for a younger mech,' he said. 'That's ridiculous,' mommy snapped. 'I can't change anything about it anymore, Tempest. It means I need to find a new job... we probably need to move to Keon,' he added. A silence fell. Moving to Keon? I didn't want to leave my home. I loved it here. Out in the open, barely any traffic. I loved the plains.
I heard mommy sigh. 'What are we going to tell Mirage?' She asked. 'We tell him I have a new job in Keon,' he stated. That's lying. I snorted softly and brushed a tear from my cheek plate. Why do they treat me like I don't understand? I sighed softly and retreated to my room.
I sat down on the ground and played with my stuffed animals.Dad walked into my room 15 minutes later. 'Ready to go?' He asked. I jumped and grasped his hand as he followed. 'He careful, sweetspark,' mommy said and kissed my head. I gave a small nod and followed daddy. It's a nice day and I looked forwards going to lake all day. 'He daddy?'
He hummed and looked down at me. 'If I am a big mech already, why do you treat me like I don't understand things properly?' I asked. 'What do you mean?' He questioned. 'You got replaced by a younger mech but you don't want to tell me that. Why not? It's not your fault, right?' Daddy stopped walking and crouched down in front of me. 'We're you spying on us again?' He asked strictly. 'Not on purpose. I am going to miss home. This is our home, right?' He nodded. 'Of course, it will always He our home but sometimes... things change,' he said. 'I don't like changes,' I whispered. 'Neither do I. Don't spy on us, Mirage. That's wrong,' he said. 'Why? I am only listening. What's wrong about that?' He asked.
'What if I am listening to your conversation and you don't know about it? How would you feel?' he asked. I looked down at my ped. 'Angry,' I mumbled quietly. I looked up, 'are you mad at me?' I asked, tears rolling down my cheeks. 'No, of course... I am not mad. I am only trying to make you understand that spying on people is wrong,' he said and kissed my helm. He brushed some tears from my cheekplate. 'It's gonna be okay, I promise.' I hugged my dad. 'We don't have to think about it now. We don't have to leave today,' he said and placed me on his shoulders. I would really gonna miss it here if we had to leave.
That evening, mommy had cooked a very good meal for me and daddy. While I was enjoying the meal, I took note of how quiet my parents were. Almost like they were sad. I thought we were good. Everything seemed good until we got back home. 'What's wrong?' I asked. 'Nothing, honey,' mommy said and cupped my face plates. I smiled and leaned into her servo. 'Don't spy on us, anymore, alright?' she asked. I gave a nod. 'Do you promise mommy you won't spy anymore?' she asked. I nodded and took my last bite.
Mommy pulled me on her lap and wiped my face clean. 'Go play in your room, okay?' she asked. I slid off her lap and sprinted upstairs, playing with my stuffed animals. I promised I would spy on them again and everything you have to do what you promise. I stopped playing when I heard the rain tap on the window. I watched it and slowly got up, looking outside. Sometimes it's so lonely without friends but leaving this place sounds unreal. I jumped a little when mommy came in. 'Come on, it's time for your bath,' she said and picked me up in her arm.
She filled the bathtub and took of my blue armor, placing it aside. I was so proud on my new color. Mommy said I could repaint my armor on my birthday and that's what happened. She started washing me. 'Mommy, do you want to read me a story?' I asked. She smiled while rubbing the soap over my body. 'Of course, my sweet one.' I played with a toy she handed me while she continued to wash me.
Not long after, I crawled in bed with my teddybear and she sat on my bed, reading me a story. I sleepily curled up on my side and heard her stop. 'I love you Mirage,' she whispered. 'I love you too, mommy.' I whispered. She smiled and rubbed my helm. 'You are so precious to me...' she added. I looked my mother in the optics. 'You are my smart little boy,' she whispered. 'Big boy,' I whispered back. She kissed my helm again. 'Sorry, big boy,' she corrected before she shut the lights. 'Goodnight, sweetie.' She walked up to the door. 'Everything will be okay, right?' I asked. 'Of course. Mommy and daddy only need to sort a few things out. It's not a big deal. There are a lot of bots that lose their job and get a new one,' she explained. 'Because they get replaced?' I asked. 'Sometimes and sometimes they want a new, more exciting job,' she said. I ohh'ed. 'What kind of job do you think I will do later?' I asked.
'You are smart enough to work for the goverment... maybe become just like Jazz,' she said and pointed at the poster on the wall. I smiled. I look up to Jazz. He's so cool. 'Yeah! I will become just like Jazz,' I stated. She smiled, 'but not today.... go to sleep, Mirage,' she said. I gave a small nod and curled up.
