'Mirage, sweetie.'
I stormed off the stairs. 'Your homework,' she said and picked me up. Mommy said I didn't have to go to primary programming anymore but can do it here at home. She sat me down at the dinning table. 'Can't I do more difficult things?' I asked as she gave me a glass of Energon and a cookie. 'Well, let's see how this goes first,' she said and sat down beside me. 'But you can't tell me the answer. I wanna do it myself,' I stated. 'Alright, hon.' She rubbed my helmet. I started to read and calculate and work my way down the sheet. 'Very well,' she said as I finished and let her have a look. 'Not a single mistake,' she said approvingly. 'No, I told you. I want to do more difficult stuff,' I stated, shoving my book away.
'Can I play now?'
'What about your other homework?' She asked. 'I already finished that this morning after I woke up,' I stated. 'Can I see it?' She asked. I sprinted upstairs and got the rest of my homework. 'Mirage, I told you before that sprinting down and up the stairs is wrong. You can hurt yourself,' she said. 'Sorry.' I handed her my homework. 'You were supposed to do everything?' She asked. 'No, but I wanted it, because it interested me and I am good at it,' I said. 'I see...' I climbed on her lap.
'Mommy?'
She looked at me. 'Kids said I have a weird name.' She shook her helm. 'You don't have a weird name, Mirage,' she said. 'I read in my book that some spies have like a cool undercover name...' I stated. She hummed and brushed over my helm. 'What would be a cool undercover name for me?' I asked. She smiled warmly. 'Something short but catchy?' She asked. I nodded. 'I bet you came up with a few,' she said. 'But I want to hear your suggestion,' I said. 'Hmmm well... spies are brave, they do dangerous work....' She trailed off.
'Dino.'
I cocked my helm to the side. 'You heard about the stories I told you about the dinobots, right?' She asked. I nodded, 'they're strong and fearless, just like spies.' I started thinking about it and nodded. 'Dino sounds really good! Yes!' I jumped off her lap. 'Dino is a really good name, mommy.' She cupped my cheek plate. I ran upstairs and grabbed a few things. Including my teddybear, and my army colored binoculars.
'I am gonna okay in the garden.'
Mommy nodded and watched me enter the garden where I played for hours. I am a spy and together with my teddybear, I was going to invade buildings and spy on people. 'Mirage! Dinner.' I jumped out of my hiding spot behind some material for the shed and walked up to mommy. 'You're dirty,' she said grasped my hand. She shut the door and washed my servo's before helping me sit down. 'Daddy! Mommy came up with a cool undercover name!' I chirped and clapped my servo's together. 'Yeah?' He asked. I nodded. 'Dino. Dinobots are strong fearless, just like spies,' I stated. He laughed and nodded. 'Yup, they are and so are you,' he said, ruffling my helmet. After dinner, mom gave me a bath and laid me in berth. 'Where's daddy going?' I asked. 'Work,' she replied and cupped my cheek plate. 'I love Mirage,' she whispered and got up. She sung a lullaby for me until I fell asleep.
That night I woke up from a strange noise. I slid out of bed with my teddybear and stopped in the hallway. I heard mommy screaming and obviously fighting someone. I sprinted off the stairs to see a large mech slamming her against the wall. I quickly crawled in the kitchen cabinet and held my teddybear tightly while tears streamed down my optics. She screamed but died down soon enough. The mech had red optics and walked upstairs before leaving the house. I quickly crawled over to mommy.
'Mommy?' I pushed her. 'Mommy wake up. Mommy what happened?' I crawled closer towards her but there was no reaction. I started crying and tried to her up. 'Mommy.' I curled up against her, crying loudly.
'Mirage?' Daddy picked me up. 'A mech hurt her. She's not waking up,' I sobbed. 'Sit here.' He said and crouched down. 'Tempest?' He touched her. I couldn't stop crying and shaking. It soon enough became busy with cops. No one was looking at me. Daddy was busy talking to the cops. 'Where are you taking my mommy!' A cop held me back. 'Mommy! Mommy!' I cried. Dad picked me up, hugging me and tried to comfort me.
'Is she going to be fine?' I whispered. 'Sit down, Mirage.' I sat down in the couch. 'Mommy is not coming back anymore, Mirage.' I felt tears ran down my face again. 'Why not? She promised to be there for me... she wouldn't leave me,' I whispered. 'She's dead, Mirage.' I felt world collapse. 'Dead...? But—' I buried my face in my servo's. Daddy pulled me up lap hugging me tightly. I couldn't stop crying. 'I want my mommy back.'
'I am so sorry, Mirage.'
I curled up in his lap, trying to find some comfort. 'It's my fault, I hid. I should've helped her,' I sobbed. 'It's not your fault, okay? It's not your fault,' he said. I shut my optics. 'She's in the allspark now,' he said. Someone crouched down, a cop. 'Hi, Mirage... I am Prowl. I'd like to ask you a question, alright?' I shivered and curled deeper into my fathers frame. 'Have you seen the mech who hurt your mother?'
'He had red optics, but it was too dark to fully see him...'
'Alright, thank you Mirage,' he said. 'Is he coming back to hurt me too?' I asked. Prowl looked at me again. 'No, nothing will happen to you, Mirage. You're save,' he said. I leaned into my father again.
