Chapter 40
Haunted
The next day i sat grimly on the floor in my room, tapping my nails on the floor. Even the thought of having Ross back again couldn't make my spirit any less bitter.
I stood up and quickly got changed into a dark grey hoodie (that had earphones hidden in them, might i add) with a tank top underneath, and my favorite tie dye shorts. I shot a look out my window and found that the steady drizzle that had been falling for the past two hours was quickly turning into pouring rain. I frowned; usually i loved rain. But not today.
I grimaced when i saw how dark it was outside, even though it was only twelve.
"So gloomy," i muttered to myself. My dad would be there any minute.
Suddenly there was the sound of my window opening, and i spun around to find Ross, dripping wet, jump into my room.
"Hi," he grinned, flipping his hair and shutting my window.
"Ross!" i hissed as he ran across the room and quietly closed and locked my door. "My dad is going to be here ANY MINUTE and if my mom found you here, especially now--"
Ross was suddenly at my side. He wrapped his arms around me. "So?"
"I might not be able to see you again in private or hiding or whatever or--" Ross leaned forward and pressed his lips against mine, forcing me to shut up.
I put a hand on his chest and attempted to push him away from me, but failed. Not that i was trying very hard or anything.
"If we get caught I'm dead," i kept thinking.
"But the door's locked," a little voice said in my head.
"There's such things as picking locks!" oh dear.
Ross started pushing closer to me, breaking my trail of thoughts.
"Who really cares?" i finally concluded, wrapping my arms around Ross's neck.
Ross started pushing me, making me walk backwards and blind across the length of my room. Only when i broke away for a millisecond to breath did i realize what he was planning.
My chair. The place where my dad had first found us. Why was he trying to bring up this old, awful memory?! Suddenly i felt like smacking Ross. But all of my angry thoughts and feelings vanished as soon as i looked into his sad brown eyes.
Maybe he was trying to replace the old memory... With a new one.
I tilted my head and smiled slightly, pushing Ross onto the chair and sitting down on top of him.
"Maybe..." Ross whispered, pulling me closer to him. "We can replace a bad memory.... With a good one?"
He didn't wait for a reply. One of his hands slid up my neck to my cheek, gently pulling my face closer to his.
He wrapped his other arm around my waist and i leaned into his chest.
I closed my eyes as Ross pressed his warm lips against mine again, and felt a shiver run up my spine when i realized how truly soaked through he was.
His hair was sticking to his forehead, his tight white shirt was see through, and his formerly-gray jeans were now more of a black. I broke away from him slightly. "You aren't freezing?!" i whispered, examining his chest.
He shrugged. "You're warm," he smiled, pulling me even closer.
"I'm serious!" i laughed.
"You are!"
