Chapter 3

Girlfriend

The next day i woke up to see my phone lit up with the words: "Voicemail, Ross lynch" in big bright letters. I yawned, then eagerly picked up my phone and listened to his message.

It was short but informative: "Hey Jord! Its Ross! I was calling to ask if you um... Could meet me at the park? You know... The one with the giant swing set that's like, walking distance from your house? Meet me there at 10! If u can, text me a smiley face with a mustache. If you can't... Well, I'm just gonna hope that you can! Bye!" and the message ended. I checked my clock and it had "8:50" written in big red block letters accross the screen. I yelped and ran to get ready. Surprisingly, if i want to, i can get ready at light speed. Then i remembered that Ross had said to text him a smiley face, so i sent it to him then bolted downstairs, slapping on my sneakers (yet again) as i went.

My mom was in the kitchen sipping coffee, and when i skidded to a halt in front of her she gave me a quizzical look and asked, "You ok hunny?" she reached up and felt my forehead.

"Fine mom, fine!I'm going to go meet someone at ten, okay?" i slammed a glob of jelly onto a piece of non-toasted bread and it splattered everywhere. "I'll clean it up later," i thought. I choked down my toast, then ran back upstairs and started furiously brushing my teeth. At 9:30 i was ready to go, so i paced around my room debating what i would say to Ross, and wondering what he would say to me for the next 15 minutes. Then i fled down the stairs, grabbed my phone, shouted, "Bye mom!!" hoping that it would echo to wherever in the world my mom was, then ran out of the door.

I go to the park seven minutes early, Ross was already there, standing with his back against a tree. He smiled when he saw me coming. As soon as i got near him he jumped up and came walking over to me, so i took it as a hint to start walking myself. I slowed my pace and we met. Ross had his hands in his pockets and he looked nervous, and the only thing i was thinking about, was if there was food stuck in my teeth that i had missed, was he going to ask to not see me again, was my hair sticking up, was the color i was wearing not pretty on me. What happened next i wasnt expecting at all. Ross motioned for me to walk with him, so we walked in silence for a couple of minutes, then i heard him take a deep breath and say, "Jord?" i turned to look at him. He looked so nervous. Oh gosh.

"Listen, Ross," i started. "If you don't want to see me anymore i will totally understand--" Ross's face went from nervous to shocked.

"Not want? See? Again? You? What?" he stuttered. He shook his head as if to clear it, then said, "No... no. Actually, i was going to ask you the opposite."

My brain couldnt register it. WHAT had he just said? I gave him a puzzled look and he said, "Ok. Jordan, i know I've only known you for like, one and a half days, but... I really like you. When i fall for a girl, i fall hard. Um... This might be an awkward question, but uh..." he started doing that strange dance thing with his hands again. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

I stared at him, uncomprehending.

"Jord.. Jordan?" he sounded really nervous now.

"Me? Girlfriend? You...?" my eyes widened and i flung my arms around his neck.

"I'm taking that as a yes?" he asked nervously.

"It's a heck yes, Ross!!" Ross wrapped his arms around me and lifted me off the ground. He twirled and then put me back down, but somehow now we were behind a big tree that i hadn't noticed before. It was probably around 300+ years old, it was so wide. He smiled and whispered, "So no one can see us." he pressed his forefinger to my lips, then his hand moved down to my neck, and he leaned in and kissed me. My spine tingled, my heart stopped. All i could think about was Ross's warm lips pressed against mine and the butterflies that were fluttering around in my stomach. I leaned in closer to Ross so that my body was pressed against his, then i folded my hands behind his head and started twirling his hair. Ross's hand moved down my body and we started walking. Kissing and walking. No thoughts. Just us and our fantasy world. Soon my back pressed against the soft bark of the old tree and Ross pressed his body harder into mine. My spine tingled and i put my hand on his neck, then slid it down his muscular arm and grabbed his hand. He grabbed my other hand and we held hands, me pressed against the tree, our bodies and lips pressed together. Ross's warmth against me clouded my mind, making me unable to think straight, when suddenly i heard camera clicks. My eyes shot open, and so did Ross's. Standing behind Ross was a group of four paparazzi, shouting things like, "Smile!" "Give me your good side!" "What's your name?" "Ross is this your new girlfriend?" Ross slowly pulled his body off of mine and grabbed my hand. He shot one look at the paparazzi -- i couldn't tell if it was a look of disgust, longing, horror, or what -- then pulled me away. "Run!" he whispered in my ear. My legs started flying, and Ross was actually keeping up with me. He still had my hand closed tightly in his, and the paparazzi ran after us until we turned a corner and lost them. Ross and i were both panting heavily; we were still connected by our hands, which were clammy, but Ross refused to let go. His eyes lit up and he said, "Well," looking over his shoulder to see if the paparazzi had really left. "That was fun, now wasn't it?" i smiled and he said, "So. They're probably on my trail now."
