CTTO: sleeplessdreamer14 (Tumgir)

relationship: camilo madrigal x gn! reader

summary: you’ve been waiting your whole life for this love, you’re not about to let it go, no matter what anyone says.

contains (for the second half): projecting insecurities, angst, hurt/comfort, but fluff at the end, kinda long

a/n: reader is the youngest in their family

- you’ve been with Camilo for a couple weeks, and so the time finally came for you to meet his family

- of course you knew about the magical Madrigal family, you just hadn’t been properly introduced

- sometimes you would pass by his Abuela Alma or his cousin Mirabel or Luisa in town, but that was it

- and you were psyching yourself out all day, thinking of all of the ways this night could go wrong

- you were almost acting like his mom, minus the rain cloud above your head (thankfully)

- luckily, Camilo had experience with his mother’s stress episodes and helped you relax

- he took your hands, stopping you in the middle of your nervous rambling and telling you that there was nothing to be scared of

- “Trust me, my family is going to love you just as much as I do.” he says before kissing your forehead

- Pepa was so happy to see you that she created a rainbow

- she and Felíx did test you a little, just to make sure you were the right one for their chameleon of a son

- your heart melted when you met Antonio, he was just so excited to finally meet you

- all of them were!

- when Abuela saw the two of you together, it reminded her of herself and her Pedro when they were young, so she definitely hoped for the best for you two

- and let’s not forget tío Bruno

- he didn’t need the gift of prophecy to know that you would someday become part of their family

- he is very supportive of you

- Dolores was delighted at this opportunity to get back at her little brother for teasing her and Mariano

- “you’re just as Camilo described you.” “really?” “Oh yeah, he talks about you all the time.”

- cue Camilo trying to hide his blushing face in his hands

- as the night went on, you realized that you were freaked out over nothing

- as you looked around, you felt comfortable and welcome, almost like you were already part of the family

- Camilo took your hand under the dinner table and gave it a gentle squeeze while (not so) subtly smiling over at you

- “I told you they would love you.”

now this is where the warnings apply

- a little while after that, you wanted to invite him over to your house for dinner

- your biggest mistake there was thinking that they would be able to handle this new information with basic human empathy

- when you talked to your family about it, you didn’t receive the reaction you were hoping for

- specifically from your siblings

- they tried convincing you that you were too young had no business dating at 15 (even though they were dating at your age)

- mostly just really rekindling all of your insecurities

- but the worst was when your oldest sibling said you were probably just getting used until he eventually got bored and left you

- finally having enough, you rushed out of the house with frustrated tears in your eyes

- as you were walking away from your home, holding your arms with your head down, you almost didn’t notice Camilo coming towards you, probably on his way to your place

- he was excited to see you at first, but his smile dropped the second he saw that you had been crying

- he rushed to your side, gently hushing you and wiping your tears away

- it took a minute, but you eventually managed to explain what happened back at your house

- as you told him what happened, Camilo couldn’t believe what he was hearing. They really said those things to you? Your own family?? How could they be so heartless?!

- setting those thoughts aside for the time being, he removed his poncho and put it on you before pulling you into his arms, holding you close and rubbing your back as if to try and protect you from the pain.

- he’ll whisper sweet nothings to you and gently stroke your hair until you’ve calmed down

- once he pulled away, seeing as it was getting dark, he wrapped an arm around you and walked you back to his house.

- Camilo knew his parents wouldn’t mind. they had actually been wanting to see you again.

- though preferably under less… sorrowful circumstances.

- you were greeted at the door by Dolores, who heard everything that happened at your house, and was not happy about it. She couldn’t believe that they would say such hurtful things to you, their baby!

- and of course his parents and tía/tío knew as well

- Julieta gave you a glass of water and something to eat since you left just before dinner

- you weren’t physically hurt, but it helped you feel better

- Abuela was almost heartbroken. she didn’t want to see your family make the same mistake she did and drive you away because they only saw the worst

- Pepa had to keep herself from making it rain for your sake. she just loved you as if you were her own, and it broke her heart to see you so sad.

- she, Felíx, Dolores, and Bruno had half a mind to march right over to your house and give your family a piece of their minds.

- Antonio was really worried about you and tried to comfort you by giving you his leopard doll (you almost began to cry again)

- you stayed with Camilo that night, a warm sense of hope in your heart as you dozed off together

- it didn’t matter what your family- or anyone thought, you and Camilo wanted to stay together. and that’s just what you were going to do.

- maybe your family just needed time to come around. and if they never did, you were always welcome in the family Madrigal.

happy holidays everyone 😊💛🎄
