Anya and Jasper walked trough the woods for a while before they sat down on a deserted bench. It was located under a massive tree so since it hadn't been raining for over three days the bench was dry, luckily enough for them.
They sat down and Anya noticed how tense Jasper was looking, she had never seen him like this before. He had always been quite pulled back and a bit stiff and somewhat tense but this was on a whole new level, well according to Anya's observations of him. And they were correct, he had never been like this around her before.
Jasper's reason for this behaviour was the fact that he had never been this alone with her before. When around Anastasia, Jasper always had other people around him as well, maybe not in the same room but there was always someone around the corner. And even though he enjoyed being with her and having her all to himself, nobody bothering them he was still afraid. Afraid that he would lose control, afraid that he'd hurt her and most of all having her see him as the monster he thought that he was.
Monster. That was the word Jasper defined himself as, nothing more and nothing less.
Anya's blue eyes longed to meet Jasper's now black ones. He was staring on the ground just below his feet. He felt her irresistible eyes on him, desperately waiting to meet his onyx black eyes and when they finally meet Anya opened her mouth to speak.
"Is something wrong?" she sounded more worried than she wanted to and she hoped that he didn't reflect over the worry in her voice, but he did. He didn't bother tho, quite the opposite actually. For to long he thought that he'd never have anyone care about him the way Anya now does and that was what made him so happy.
"No everything is fine" he assured her but she was not convinced.
"Are you sure?"
"Of course"
"You know that I would not bother if it is anything, you can talk to me" she pushed. By this state Jasper would use his abilities to make her agree with him but it felt wrong for him to to that on Anya. She meant to much for him.
"I know," he hesitated when he said this considering to tell her about him and his family but he just didn't know how to, so he didn't.
Anya didn't want to be pushy and making him talk since she knew how annoying that is, so she decided to try and change the subject to cheer him up from whatever low he was at.
"So" she started.
"So?" Jasper asked.
"Why does your eyes change color?"
Jasper was stunned, he didn't know what to say. He had been so thankful that she hadn't mentioned his sudden changes of eye color that he took for granted that she hadn't even noticed.
"It's very hard to explain" he started trying to come up with some natural excuse.
"Please try"
"Nobody really knows why they change. But Carlisle's guess is that my eyes change depending on my mood." he said trying to convince her.
"Rosalie's eyes do that to, does she also have that?"
"Yes, she sure does"
Jasper truly believed that his little white lie worked.
