New beginnings

Chapter 41

We spent the day together and it was time for Derek to go. He brought his suitcase outside and put it into his car. Everyone left and it was just us.

"Derek" I said tearing up

He turned around and looked at me. He walked in front of me and kissed my lips. He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tightly.

"I love you Meredith" he whispered kissing my cheek

"Derek please be safe" I said

"I will. I don't want to leave but I have to" he said pulling away

He went into his car and I went into the house. Theirs is the first time that he's really gone away since the twins were born. I miss him so much already. I went upstairs and went into the twins room. I grabbed a blanket and sat onto the rocking chair. I reclined it. I ended up falling asleep. I woke up the next morning and yawned. I cuddled into the blanket and laid here for a little bit. Today was Christmas and I can't spend it with Derek but I have my keeps to keep me happy. I started getting a phone call. I answered it

"Hello" I asked

"Hey Mer I wanted to see how you're doing. How's everything down there" he asked

"Well someone's making something downstairs. I don't know who it is and I can't wait for you to get back" I said

"I'll be there hopefully tomorrow night" he said

"Hopefully" I said

"Is it snowing" he asked

I got up and opened the blinds

"Yes it is. It's really snowing out there" I said

"Can you FaceTime me so I can see you and the twins" he asked

"Of course" I smiled

I switched the call to FaceTime

"Ugh I love your beautiful face" he smirked

I started smiling and biting my lip. I turned the camera around and faced it onto the sleeping kids.

"Hey guys daddy loves you so much and misses you. I can't wait to see you both when I get home" he said

I turned the camera back to me and looked at him. Someone knocked on the door in his hotel.

"Hey I'll call you back in a little bit" he said

"Okay" I said

"Bye" he said

I hung up the phone and the twins started waking up. I changed and fed them. I put them back into their cribs and left the room. I went downstairs and everyone was over. It was crazy down here. The kids were drinking hot cocoa.

"Hey finally you're up" Amelia said walking over to me

She got me a hot chocolate and I drank a sip.

1 hour later

The kids were opening presents. I held the twins into my arms.

"Damn Meredith Derek missed out" Amelia said

"Yeah. He did" I said

"He's a dick" Lizzie said next to me

"Mmmhm" I said

"Speaking of dicks. Dad came to talk to me again" Amelia said

"What" Lizzie and I said in sync

"Yeah I got a restraining order against him finally" Amelia said

"Good. That's great to hear" I said
