A moment after, me and Jonathan walked along the shore of Keepers Beach.
It’s the name Jonathan knew since he was a baby, but now, the name was changed to Stony Bay.
Maybe because there were a lot of stoners here. That’s what Jonathan said.
We’re still walking silently, my arms wrapped around myself, feeling a bit cold but I don’t shiver. I don’t need a moment like that. Jonathan walks beside me, his arms flinging back and forth every step. We’re headed to nowhere, and I know it. But I have a feeling he knows where we’re going.
I look sideways, to the ocean. The waves touch my feet a little and the water is warm. Really warm, I shiver visibly from delight. I sigh from the warmness and examine the rocks. The rocks are in the ocean, past the sand, and the sand is really deep. Every step buries my feet in the sand and I almost loose balance. My hair is loose so the wind blows it, sending it horizontally lying on the air. The moon is up, and I’m guessing it’s really late, but I don’t want to go home, not when I go home to a guy who acts immobile and ignorant around me. My eyes sting from the thought and I have to look down and up, back at the moon, forcing my tears back. I’m really worried about Daniel, but I’m just so scared. I’m scared because of what I’am.
We can’t hide from ourselves.
We walk some more, Jonathan occasionally kicking pebbles farther from us, kicking sand side by side and picking up seashells and throwing them at the ocean. After a moment, he stops, goes near the ocean and sits on the sand, his bottoms getting soaked through the waves. I stand there for a moment, not knowing what to do. I clutch myself tightly in my arms and keep my eyes straight ahead.
Jonathan takes his shirt off.
Holy shit why do I react like this every time I see a guy topless? It’s not like I’ve seen some god. He turns to me and he must’ve seen my horrified face. He laughs and says, “Shut up. I’m going for a swim. You can join if you want to.” He places his shirt on a nearby rock where it’ll stay dry. He walks deeper in the water with his basketball shorts on, and dips lower and lower. He looks far away but he’s tall, he must be six feet deep now because I can only see his head. He swims toward my direction and pops his head out, his hair soaking wet, his bangs reaching his cheekbones. The water drips from his hair, to the slope of his nose and to the perfect cliff of his chin. He’s so adorable and handsome. I’ve never seen such a half-demon this beautiful before.
He smiles at me. A new smile that I’ve missed. A crooked smile. “Come on Victoria,” he urges. “The water’s amazing.”
I really want to swim I do, badly, so badly.
And it’s not because of the water.
Instead, I pout and say, “I don’t have any swimsuit.” I clutch myself tighter in my arms, terrified of what I think he’ll say.
He smirks and says, “You don’t have any underwear?” I glare at him and start to walk away. There’s no way I’m swimming in my underwear with him. I can hear the splashes of water as he stands up to go to shore. He’s racing behind me, catching up until something wet touches my shoulder. His hand is there and I turn to him.
“Please?” he asks with dog eyes. “Here,” he says, reaching for the rock which contains his shirt. “Wear this.” Then he goes back to the water, leaving me there with the shirt in my hand. He’s swimming in the water, like he’s waiting for me but he’s just passing time. He stops and pops his head out again, looking at me through innocent eyes.
