“How was Stacy’s? I was going to talk to you but she said you were in the bathroom.”

I’m home and Daniel’s making dinner. Fish and chips tonight and he’s wearing his glasses, they’re fogging up because of the steam. I almost smile at the scene but I couldn’t.

    I lied to him. Again.

He’s smiling at me so I know he bought the lie. He’s flipping the pan and raking the spatula up and down. He puts the pan down and lowers the heat to walk over and sit beside me. He slings a hand around my shoulder, waiting for my answer.

I give a small smile and say, “Fun.” It came out a bit quiet.

He narrows his eyes and furrows his eyebrows in a worried way. He tilts my chin up with one finger. “Are you okay?” He asks in a concerned tone.

I give him a small smile and he drops his finger and sighs. I bite my lip because I’m ashamed. I’m ashamed of myself for bringing Daniel in my drama and making him suffer with me. He shouldn’t feel bad because of me. I’ll just be an emotional whiney girl to him.

He looks up with sad eyes and he caresses my forehead with his fingers. “Where are you Victoria? I miss you,” he whispers. Then, he closes his eyes and places his forehead against mine. “Come back.”

I can’t help but cry, but I do it silently.

So he won’t hear the lies I’ve been dying to let him know.
