“Can I ask you something?” I ask Daniel.
We’re in his room, it’s night, and tomorrow’s Nick’s birthday. Daniel’s in his boxers and I’m in my regular pyjamas and a tank top. My head’s pillowed on his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. His hands are at the back of his head and we’re both staring at his empty ceiling.
“What kind of something?” He asks, craning up his neck so he can glance at me. I roll over so I lie on my stomach, but my head’s still intact on his chest.
I trace the lines of his bare chest. “I don’t know, some questions.”
He chuckles softly, my finger vibrating under the touch of his chest. “What kind of questions?”
I place my palm flat against his chest and look up at him. “Questions…to know you better.” I continue tracing imaginary curves and lines along his chest.
He chuckles again and wraps me in his arms, carrying me in the process. He places me on top of him so my whole body rests against his. My toes come down just below his knees and my chin comes up just against his chest. I prop up to look at him, raising my chest, and my tank top isn’t doing such a decent job. I fold my arms under my chin and rest it against them, covering my chest in the process. “Like what?” Daniel asks.
My eyes flicker to his lips for a split second, the way they always do when he’s speaking. “Like…have you ever had a girlfriend before?” I ask, locking my eyes intently on his.
“Yeah,” he says after a while. “Just one, before you.”
“What’s her name?” I ask. I’m looking at him with a small smile on my face so he doesn’t get uncomfortable doing this. A small smile tugs on his lips and his eyes flicker on my lips for a split second before returning to my eyes.
“Madison,” he says. He cups one side of my face and trails them up under my scalp, tugging on my ponytail. He pulls on my ponytail, letting my hair loose.
“And what was Madison like?” I ask him softly, my senses concentrating on his finger on my hair.
He pouts his lips, like he does when he’s thinking or deciding on something. Like whether or not he’s going to order nuggets. “Madison…she was okay, I guess. I liked her because she was so kind and soft-hearted. She did charity work, she was smart and honest. But she broke up with me. She like James Mosby better than me. Madison was many things,” he adds. He looks at me with a smile that looks a bit smug, but is not. His eyes flicker again to my lips. “But you, you are something else.”
A huge smile crept its way up to my lips and my eyes lock on his lips. They don’t flick elsewhere, they just stay there. My eyes ignoring everything else in the room, blurring them and blocking them out. I prop up gently and crawl up to him so I can touch my lips to his. He’s smiling at me and his eyes are locked on my lips also. I press my smiling lips against his gently and he props on his elbows slowly, moving his also smiling lips against mine. He sits up and I sit on his lap, my legs wrapped around him. My hands cup the back of his neck and another is gripping his back. His broad hands are around my back, wrapping them tightly around me and pulling me closer to him as he deepens the kiss. My throat lets out a grumble of moan and he smiles, he’s clearly enjoying this as much as I do. My arms wrap around his neck, pulling him closer to me. He leaves my lips, skimming his lower lip along my chin to my throat and he presses them on my neck, leaving deep and scorching kisses along. I release a full, load moan and my fingernails dig on the skin of his back. He cups the back of my neck and the middle of my back, dipping me low so my head touches the mattress and he’s on top of me, my legs still wrapped around his torso. Our heads are at the foot of the bed, his hands cupping my face and another goes under my tank top. I tug it up and he takes it off, flinging them to the ground. He pulls away slowly from my neck and he looks at me, smiling. He leans in and gives me a slow kiss. The kiss I love the most.
