After returning the tag to Dave and receiving a decent amount of gil, the four return to the Regalia. They depart from the Longwythe Rest Area and head towards Galdin Quay.
Makina sat between Gladiolus and Noctis in the backseat. She crossed her legs and fished her phone out of her pocket when it buzzed. On the screen, she saw text messages from Fellux. Although they were simple text messages, she could feel the worry that radiated from them. She needed to reply. As she tried to figure out what to say, she realized Noctis was also eyeing her phone. "Nosy much?"
Noctis ignored her and read the messages. "Your old man texting you?"
"Yeah. He's worried about me. I should really return to Insomnia." She was about to tell her father of her return, but the prince snatched her phone out of her hands. "Hey, Noct! Give that back!"
"C'mon, a couple more days couldn't hurt." Noctis held the phone out of her reach. "Once we've boarded the ship for Altissia, you can head back to the city."
"Fine. At least let me text him that I made it back to Eos safely."
The prince handed the phone back.
Makina responded to her father. It was a lengthy text that shared the details of her two-month-long journey, her safe return to Eos, and her current arrangement with the boys. It wasn't long before Fellux replied.
-Forgive me, Makina.-
Her brows furrowed together in confusion. She sent a reply.
-What're you talking about?-
A few seconds later, he responded.
-About the arranged marriage.-
Makina sighed and forwarded her next message.
-Don't apologize. I understand. I will see you soon, Dad.-
Fellux replied.
-Stay safe, sweetheart.-
She put her phone away with another sigh. Prompto heard the heavy exhale and turned in his seat to over at the princess. "Everything okay back there?"
"Everything's fine," she answered. "Dad's just apologizing for things that are out of his control again."
"King Fellux is an altruistic man," Ignis said. "One who only desires the joy of those dearest to him."
"Mom did say his kindness was a blessing and a curse." She unconsciously gripped the ring that hung from the chain located around her neck. She traced the design and pressed her fingertip against the silver diamonds located along the metal feathers. The chain had been a gift from Noctis. He gave it to her on her tenth birthday because he didn't want her to lose her mother's ring.
