Ruma hopped alongside Vessenhilo as the two checked out the possible breeders for the latest experiments. With excitement in her veins. His scent. It drew her in like another had so many, many years ago.
A finger tapped on her head, and she looked up to see Vassenhilo grabbing her attention, "Can I trust your head is with me today?" he asked, raising a metaphorical eyebrow, as he did not have any.
"Of course." She signed to him as she moved up onto her back legs; that way, communicating was easier. They made their way up to a sizeable white-stoned building. On the compound that Vassenhilo made since his Uncle's capture and ultimate demise, there were one hundred identical buildings, with twenty others being created on the east side of the compound where he expanded the space.
The door to the building was very plain to look at, the colour matched the rest of the building, but it had two locks, one that had to be opened by an old fashion key that she, Vassenhilo, and the Guard Captian all had hold of, then a number code that any of the workers knew.
At the top of the door, read the number of the Quadrant; this one was Quad 86.
Vassenhilo bypassed the code number with his key and popped open the building. Once inside, the lights came on in the areas they stood, leaving the rest in darkness, a way to reserve the energy they needed.
The first floor they stood on went around the edge of the building, with a couple of entrances into the centre part of the building, with two stairs, one leading down into the different sectors and one leading up to the observation window. Vassenhilo led them up.
Once there, they had a 360 room encompassing the top of the Quadrant. A few soft chairs, desks, other workspaces, and stair-like platforms encircled the glass.
She lay down on a floating platform that overlooked the observation window down into the hendecagon-shaped plaza filled with an orange sand base.
Ruma watched as some older members were out and about, enjoying the area. While the newer ones, especially today's haul, were doing typical reactions, panicking, trying to figure a way out, or silently scheming. Ruma just rolled over; she knew it would be about a month before they all settled in, just in time for the next shipment.
"We have a decrease in sector 7 of this Quadrant. Should we add more from the new haul or transport from another Quadrant?" Vassenhilo asked as he typed on a large computer connected to the compound's private system.
Ruma rolled back over and dropped to the ground, grabbing the tablet she owned and quickly scanning through the numbers chart. She noticed an increase in quadrant 42.
"There is an overflow in 42; we can move some from there. I see six that have shown higher stamina and constitution, which is what we seek in this Quadrant." Ruma flipped the pad around to show Vassenhilo. He looked up the information on his side.
"I see. Let us do that. While we are at it, set up some new breeding pairs here. I want to see at least five new offspring in each sector by the end of next year." Vassenhilo took over the transfer process.
While Ruma took over the breeding pairing, looking at the pedigrees and genetic matches. This always took a while to keep things in check.
"Alright, girl", Vassenhilo broke the several-hour silence. "That was the last thing of the day," Vassenhilo said as he closed the open tab on his holopad. "I must now go to the lab and start the next process." he looked down at her with his large oval-shaped eyes, "You can go play with your new thing."
Her ear twitched under her mane of hair, and she turned to ready herself to pounce forward into a run when he stopped her mid-air by grabbing her clothes and pulling her close.
