"First, why do you help that monster with his experiments?"
Ruma wasn't sure how to take this question. She was never asked it directly. Though from Deon's previous actions, she feared that the wrong answer would leave him walking away from her again like he had done before.
She hopped up on the table, sitting cross legged on it, so she could lean against her arm while it was rested against her leg.
"Well?" Deon raised a brow.
"It's all I have known." she signed.
Deon grabbed a chair and sat backwards in it. "Do you think its wrong?"
"I'm not sure, there are somethings I don't like and others I don't mind."
"Your hyp- demi- whatever it is called, subtype of humans, they were made from experiments like these yes?"
She nodded her head.
"Then- were you tested on?"
Her eyes started to haze, something he noticed Ruma do often.
"Ruma?" Deon said waving his head in front of her. she snapped back over to him.
She looked around, then took a deep breath. "I have been, a few times."
Deon looked down, fiddling with his hands. "Can I ask, about them?"
Ruma reached out and cupped his jaw and lifted it to look at her. She gave him a soft smile, to show she wasn't upset. Then nodded yes, so that he could continue his questions.
"Can you tell me about one?" he asked.
Ruma sat back and thought, then pointed to her neck. She turned, and lifted her hair, showing a small pink line that was hide towards the back of it. Dropping her hair, "They took my voice from me, when I was young."
"That's why you can still kind of talk," he said, in an ah ha moment.
She nodded.
Deon thought about it. "Can I change topics?"
"Sure, your the one wantin questions."
"Why did you want me? Out of that line of people, out of the thousands that have come before, why me?"
"You smelt like dirt, and tree bark. You still do."
Deon chuckled, "Glad I smell good?" he shook his head, "But why did my smell make you choose me?"
"You won't be mad?" she asked, with a worried look.
Deon nodded, "I promise,"
"Briker also smelt like that." she looked sad saying that.
"Who is Briker?" Deon sat up a bit more curious now.
"He was my Brude, the only one I had before you."
Deon stared at her not knowing what he felt or thought about that. She choose him because he reminded her of someone else, and if he hadn't he would be in one of those Quadrant. Was this lucky, or just unfair as a whole.
"Your mad." she moved back.
He shook his head, "No, not mad." he moved his thoughts aside. "I saw that name in that diary of yours, also the name Orkan."
"Orkan was my Maeger."
"Do you miss them?" he asked.
"More and more, every day."
"You loved them then?"
Ruma had tears fall from her eyes, "Of course I did."
"Do you love me?" Ruma looked up, stunned by the question.
She thought, "I care for you, as you have let me see more of you. I want to love you, but the question would be would you let me?" she signed slow, as she knew he would have a hard time keeping up with it.
"Would you send me back to be part of the experiments if I said no, i wouldn't let you?"
Ruma's face dropped, she felt like he had just told her no. She answered honestly though, "No, I wouldn't. Even if you just stayed in that other room from now on, I could still smell your scent as I walked by."
"Would that be enough for you?"
"It would have to be, cause you don't want me."
"I didn't say that, I asked IF I didn't want you to love me." Deon said firmly. "But, I supposed that if I am to stay here, I can try and form some type of bond with you. As it isn't normal, but this situation isn't either."
Ruma perked up.
"But-"
She paused in her excitment.
"I have a few conditions."
She nodded, waiting for him to tell her.
"One, you tell me more about this place, your people, your past, everything. I don't want left in the dark on any of it. Even if your going to have to rip someone stomach open, while it bothers me I want to know. I can sit here knowing that something horrible is going on, and pretend like it doesn't effect me." he held up one finger towards her as he spoke.
Ruma thought about it. "I can agree to that, I might not be able to tell you before or as it happens, but I don't mind taking the time to update you."
"Two, I initiate everything unless I have said something was okay to do already. So far that means sitting in my lap, and sleeping in the same bed is fine, but don't try to kiss me or paw at me unless I go first," he said while holding up a second finger.
She didn't have to think on that one; she just said okay.
"Three" he held up the third one. "I want to be told when you found something that is just me you like, and it doesn't remind you of Briker." he said and stopped for a second, "I am not him, I am Deon. If you want me to love you, or for me to let you love me, you have to want me as Deon."
She nodded.
He sat back, "Thank you for grabbing me out of that line, I don't know if I would have survived long."
Ruma being Ruma, "No, Vassenhilo would have pulled you and experimented on you for sure by now, as you wouldn't fit very well with a lot of breeding options."
His shoulders dropped, "Thanks?"
"You would be fine with me,"
"Maybe in a few month, you got to earn that." he held his hand up at her, and she just giggled.
