Football Saturday on campus meant the apartments were relatively quiet in the afternoon, which was perfect for Marc and Sarah, as they planned to watch Wisconsin's Homecoming game against Iowa followed by Missouri at Vanderbilt. Last night's sweep of Towson (25-23, 25-19, 25-19) had her in a very good mood, which translated to her normally happy demeanor being just that much more chipper. Following the first game, which the Badgers won 27-7, Sarah scooted herself closer to Marc, then rested her head on his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.
Marc: You're adorable, you know that?
Sarah smiled and patted Marc's heart in response to his compliment. He looked down at her and, with little hesitation, the two of them leaned toward each other and their lips met.
Marc: Despite the emotional chemistry we've developed in the past two months, we're still a bit of strangers to each other, so we should fill in some of the gaps in our knowledge of one another in preparation for our official "we're together" display tomorrow. Therefore, I propose a session of "20 Questions".
Sarah: I'm game. It's your idea, so you can start.
*Marc: If you could go back in time and erase one day from your life, which would you choose?
Sarah: Start off with a toughie. Hmmm. November 29, 2020. The day after my first game with Vandy football. Avoided every kind of social media leading into the game at Missouri and following it, but seeing all the hate being dished out for me stepping in and helping my school, it hurt. You?
Marc: May 11, 2019. It was the Tuesday of Finals week and I received a call from my mom late that evening telling me that my dad had passed away while she was at work.
Sarah: Oh my! Can I ask how?
Marc: A burst aneurysm that left a six-inch gash in his aorta. The autopsy said he bled out inside a minute.
Sarah was stupefied on how to respond to Marc's statements other than to snuggle in closer to him. She then asked her first question.
*Sarah: If you could spend 24 hours as someone else, who would it be?
Marc: John Herdman, the current coach of the Canadian men's national soccer team.
Sarah: I'd like to spend a day in the shoes of Hunter McGrady, someone who is both extremely beautiful and well-proportioned.
*Marc: You're not so bad yourself in either of those ways, dear. Over or under?
Sarah: Definitely under. You?
Marc: Over. That is, if I even bother putting it on the roller in the first place.
*Sarah: So a bit lazy, are you? Who would you consider to be a role model of yours?
Marc: As I mentioned on our first date, my high school soccer coach had a big influence on my future trajectory both in school and in life.
Sarah: Mine is Steph Labbe. Her openness about dealing with anxiety and depression gave me enough awareness to know when my mental health had started to slide and how to get off the hamster wheel for my own well-being.
*Marc: She's one of my favorite goalkeepers. Worst clothing malfunction?
Sarah: Senior prom. I had gotten a two-piece dress that I thought was really cute and made me look WOW. The bottom of the upper portion kept riding up and showing my paunch. Turned what I thought would be a great night into a horrific one, because I was so self-conscious of my belly showing like it did.
