The JMU volleyball team awoke on Friday morning with tons of texts on their phones from well-wishers and family and friends following last night's W and the possibility of punching a ticket to (most likely) Pittsburgh for a Round of 16 matchup against the third-seeded Panthers.
Jademps (to Caroline): Mama talking about bringing a crowd your way tonight. Give them something about which to cheer.
WhatYouTalkinBoutWillis (to Chloe): Here's a *kiss* for good luck tonight. Parents might be dragged up to Harrisonburg by the other Raleigh folks, so be prepared. <3
WhatYouTalkinBoutWillis (to Caroline): Your coach asked my coach to bring me to AVCA so I can be part of your on-court session. Good luck tonight and I'll see you on the 14th.
Jocygurl78 (to Sarah): Congrats on last night's win. Hope you take down TT tonight and keep your season alive.
CoachSkinner (to Lauren): Best of luck against Texas Tech. You've had a marvelous season and I hope it continues into next week.
KellyPSheffield (to Lauren): Been in your shoes before. Tune out the nay-sayers and believe in your team to get the job done. Hoping Pitt gets bounced and you end up going to Purdue for regional.
LivTheDream (to JMU group chat): Congrats on last night's win. Will see all of you later at the Convo.
Before leaving for their 10:00 exams, a couple of the players sent return messages.
ChloeBioGeek (to Alden): Thanks for the warning, cutie. *KISS* for you as well. I think Lauren is trying to get your match with Pepperdine shown on the overhead scoreboard after we finish off Texas Tech. Kick some butt tonight. Love you.
BullDozier (to Alden): Good luck to you as well. Sounds like our parents are going to be coming to tonight's match based on Jade's comment earlier this morning. Looking forward to seeing your smiling face on the overhead tonight and then in-person in Columbus.
SarahF32 (to Jocelyn Alo): Thanks, babe! Playing mom's alma mater, so we better win or I won't hear the end of it when I'm home for the holidays.
As the morning rolled along, a vast number of phone and online orders were placed with the Athletics Ticketing Office, causing its director, Justin Zenz, to contact Michael to discuss fulfilling them and how best to bunch those who he was sure were players' family members.
Justin: It has been a BUSY morning over here at the Bank (Atlantic Union Bank Center, home of JMU basketball). Your match tonight seems to be a somewhat hot item, as there have been quite a number of orders and requests for it, with a fair portion of those coming from outside the general Harrisonburg area. Since I'm expecting now a pretty sizable crowd at the Convo, I'd like to know where you wish to have the Family-and-Friends section and Student section or sections placed.
Michael: Do you have a seating chart of the Convo in front of you?
Justin: Yes, I do.
Michael: Last night, with the crowd being somewhat sparse, the parents et al sat in the section directly across from our bench, which is on the right side of the scorer's table.
Justin: That would have been 107. I can put all of those requests into that section, as well as hold out some for there to accommodate walk-ups of that sort or persons who wish to be in that area.
Michael: I think I'd like you to place the student section there and bleeding over toward the home team's tunnel, with the families behind the bench.
