FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 1963

Alexandria had never been more proud of the four mop-topped, Liverpudlian boys in front of her. They all sat on the floor of John and Cynthia Lennon's flat, their eyes glued to the spinning ring of vinyl in front of them. The needle glided across the grooves of the record, and it blew the boys' minds. They'd watched records spin on turntables a million times in their lives but never had the experience made them so emotional.

No, this time, their listening experience was different. This time, the boys were listening to themselves. Paul started with "I Saw Her Standing There," John continued with "Misery" and "Anna," George was next with "Chains," and Ringo got his feature with "Boys"—and that wasn't even the end of side one!

Cynthia Lennon leaned her head against her husband's shoulder, her hands resting against her stomach, the stomach that swelled with the couple's first child more each day. She was due practically any day now. John's eyes stayed still on the vinyl disk in front of him, watching it in complete awe. He'd always dreamt of this moment, ever since he had been a teenager learning banjo chords from his mother. The fact that he was sitting here, listening to his own bloody album, was the greatest gift anyone had ever given him. He was overjoyed.

George sat to the left of Cynthia and the right of Alexandria, his eyes looking older than twenty years, but his build still slender like he was a teenager. On the floor in between George and Alexandria, their hands sat close to one another as they leaned back on their arms. Their fingertips just barely touched each other, but even the minimal touch made them feel calm. The couple had celebrated their third anniversary just the previous month, and to date, that had been George's greatest accomplishment. Now, this had to at least tie with it.

Paul sat on the other side of Alexandria, his handsome, doe-colored eyes too set on the vinyl record to even take note of how close Alexandria and George were sitting next to each other. He wasn't jealous of them, not anymore, and he hadn't been for a long time. Maybe he was a bit jealous that they had such a close connection, and he didn't have that with anyone, but he was happy for them because they were happy with each other. Plus, Alexandria always had the most ridiculous stories about George, and without their relationship, he would never get to hear any of them. Paul was sure that he knew absolutely everything about their relationship because he and Alexandria were still so close after so many years. Hell, he even remembered during a Hamburg residency the winter after Alexandria and George had started their relationship when George had finally lost his virginity. The entire band had been there to witness it, though George and Alexandria certainly had no idea. If they had known, they'd have saved that moment for another time.

Ringo Starr had felt left out for months since he was the newest member of the band. Now, as he listened to the record, he realized that the Beatles were like a unit, and he was a part of that unit. Ringo wasn't ever going to go anywhere with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. He'd been wary about his decision to leave for the past seven months, but this was the moment that that apprehension floated out the window.

For all four of them, the moment was forever to be in their memories. Whether they were together or apart in ten years, they would remember this moment. Now was the moment where they appreciated all the hell they had gone through in the past three years. They'd gone from being useless nobodies from Liverpool to recording artists, and the climb to the top had been challenging. Now, they'd never felt so bloody alive.

"Hey, John?" Paul asked as side one crackled to a close.

"What do ye want, Paul?" John asked, trying to remain sarcastic, but it was hard to feel that way whenever he was so starstruck.

"Where's that bloody champagne you promised me?" Paul cracked a grin at John, and Alexandria reached over to shove him in the arm.

"You're on a bloody record, and all you're thinking of is champagne?"

"Dick move, Paul," Ringo said from the other side of him, a smirk on his lips, but John was already pushing himself to his feet, and Cynthia was moving herself to the couch, her big belly making it hard for her to move. Before he left, John affectionately helped her to her feet while everyone watched. John liked to play the tough guy, but whenever it came to Cynthia, everyone knew that he loved her a lot, and in a remarkably soft way, considering it was John.

"Flip the record before you go, won't you, ye old softie?" Paul quipped.

John turned to the others with a scowl. He hated to be referred to as that. Everyone knew it, and that only made it a great deal more entertaining.

"Do it your damned self," John barked as he tromped out of the room. As side two began, John returned with the champagne in his hands, then he went over to an impressive glass cabinet by the window and retrieved four champagne glasses from it. John sat them on the coffee table, poured a satisfactory amount into them, and then distributed them throughout the room. It wasn't long before the four boys and two girls in the room had whooped out a few triumphs and toasted their drinks. Alexandria would treasure this moment forever, simply because it was so easy. After this moment, things would be crazy. They would get out of hand. She wanted to remember this moment for the rest of her life. It was such a simple time, and she liked that. She was sure of one thing, though. She and George would get through the toughest of times. No matter what was thrown at them, they'd come out on top. She was sure of that, and he was sure of that too. And that would be the stubborn assurance that would keep them sane over the next seven years with the Beatles.
