SATURDAY, MAY 1, 1965

Alexandria parked her car in the driveway of Kenwood and got out, breathing in the fresh Weybridge air. Her eyes hid behind a pair of dark sunglasses and she tried not to think about the dull aching behind her eyes that not even the sunglasses she adorned could get rid of it. She wondered as she strode up the chalk-white sidewalk if she was making a terrible mistake showing up to ask for a drinking buddy unannounced, but she thought of all the other times she had successfully roped Cynthia into throwing a cold one back with her, and she relaxed.

Stepping up to the front door finally, Alexandria knocked a bit tentatively. When she gave it some time and there was no response, she knocked again, this time a little louder than before. A moment later, John appeared in the doorway with a small plastic bottle containing some red liquid in his hand.

"Greetings, Alex," he said with a grin. "Haven't seen you in ages. What brings you here?" From in the house, Alexandria heard John and Cynthia's two-year-old son, Julian, start to cry. John frowned. "Sorry, Jules is feeling a little under the weather. It's kinda driving Cyn up the wall. Starting to think she may be losing her mind a bit.

"Actually, John, I was looking for Cyn," Alexandria said. "But, if now isn't a good time, then I can always come back some other time."

"John, where is that medicine I asked you for?" Cynthia called from somewhere in the house.

John snapped his attention to the room behind him, then stepped aside. "No, Alex, she may lose her goddamn mind if she doesn't see someone other than me soon. Come in and I'll send her out." John gave a stout smile before hurrying off toward wherever Cynthia was in the house. "I've got it right here, stay calm!" he shouted after her.

Alexandria wrapped her arms around herself, feeling a bit like an intruder as she waited for Cynthia to appear around the corner. And eventually, she did.

"You don't know how refreshing it is to see you," Cynthia Lennon said with a hand to her forehead as she entered the room.

"Something wrong?" Alexandria asked with a small smile. She could only imagine that dealing with a sick toddler wasn't the easiest task in the world.

"Julian won't stop screeching," she began, and as if he were cued to do so, Julian began to cry again. "John doesn't know what in the hell to do because he's never around for any of this." Cynthia sighed. "Think I'm in need of a bevvy. Something really strong."

"Well, you'll never guess what I came over here for," Alexandria said sheepishly.

Cynthia's eyes lit up. "I think an outing between us two is long overdue, don't you?" Cynthia said. Then, she turned and looked toward the doorway that would lead her back to John. "Suppose he's got Dot to help him, huh?" She glanced at Alexandria for a moment, then walked over to the doorway. "I'm goin' out, John!" she called. "Ask Dot if you need anything!"
