"How does this look?" Alexandria asked anxiously, gesturing to a dress she had slipped on for her meeting today. The dress fell just below her knees, and it was sharp and looked well put together.
George, who was in the middle of tying his tie, looked over and smiled at Alexandria. "You look beautiful," he said to her, looping the thin strip of cloth around his neck. "But, how are you feeling?"
"Other than this stuffy nose, I'm doing wonderful. I think it's the nerves, actually. They are—albeit ironically—making me feel better, a little calmer. I feel great!" Alexandria grinned, turning back toward the mirror to look at her again. She brushed her hands against the skirt of her dress and George smiled at her. He hadn't seen her this happy in days. It was refreshing. "You know, this dress doesn't look as awful on me as I thought it would. It actually looks nice, I think."
George secured his tie in place and moved over to Alexandria. His hands hooked around her waist and his head appeared beside her in the mirror. "What'd I tell you whenever you tried to psych yerself out of buyin' it?"
"Wasn't trying to psych myself out. Just didn't think it was worth the money."
"Hell, this'd be worth a million dollars. You look bloody gorgeous." George nuzzled his head against the side of her neck, his breath tickling her.
"Thought it might cover up too much skin for your liking," Alexandria said, her lips spreading into a grin.
"It's all right," George said. His lips spread into a smirk and he met her eyes through the mirror. "I can enjoy it now and take it off later to enjoy what lies underneath."
Alexandria face turned beet-red. "Oh, hell, George, now I'm all flustered," she said, brushing some hair from her eyes sheepishly.
She paused, her eyes lifting up to look at herself and George in the mirror again. George's hands wrapped around her stomach from behind, and her hands clutched his. Suddenly, the confidence she had blooming inside of her faltered and faded away. Once again, she was left with a mind full of insecurities. "Hell, George, what if they don't like me? It almost seems like a dream...I mean, I've been looking for something to make me happy for weeks now, and this all of a sudden comes up? Doesn't it seem too good to be true?"
"Maybe," George said. "Or maybe it's just a reward for all of the hard work you put into that novel," he said. "Just imagine a hard copy, printed and bound, with a pretty cover on the front."
Alexandria smiled. "That's a dream," she said.
"A dream about to come true," George responded, reaching up and running his hands through her hair. "You've nothing to worry about, Alex. They're gonna love you. They'd be daft not to."
