FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1965

One thing that Alexandria had never planned for was the way her body would react to birth control. It had been barely a week since she'd first started taking it, and she had already experienced every single feeling in the world as well as every single side effect known to man.

Since the little wonder pill changed the natural levels of hormones in your body, it caused all sorts of mental changes. Alexandria (and George, for that matter) had never known mood swings quite like the ones she was going through now.

Then, came the side effects. The one plaguing her most at the moment was a headache, a sharp pain in the base of her skull, so awful that it made her nauseous and had persisted for about three days now. It was only now starting to clear up, the slight fogginess in her brain that it had caused was clearing, and she was feeling a bit more like her normal self. She had spent the first week at home, too miserable with mood changes, headaches, nausea, and even soreness in her breasts to have the courage to leave the house.

Today, she was feeling liberated from her lack of symptoms, and she waited as patiently as she could for George to return from the meeting he had been to this morning, wanting something a little physical since she hadn't had any of that in nearly a week. She waited, and waited, and waited, laying on the couch with a novel in her hand, until finally, she heard the front door open.

Delighted with George's timing because she was just starting to get unbearably impatient, she slammed her book closed and jumped up. "George, is that you?" she asked excitedly.

"Yeah, it's me," he said from the foyer, stopping by the front door to slip his shoes off. "Was wonderin' if you're feelin'—?" George was cut off when Alexandria burst into the foyer in a rush and placed her lips against his.

He hummed delightedly in response. "Well, hello," he said with a smirk against her lips.

Without hesitating, Alexandria's hands fumbled to untuck his shirt. She needed to feel him. "Might I ask...what's goin' on?" George mumbled in between kisses. Not that he was objecting, but this whole interaction seemed a bit bizarre to him, almost like fantasy more so than reality.

"Are you tryin' to turn me down or summat?" Alexandria asked, and the very thought made her angry. Hell, she'd been waiting all day for this! She pulled away immediately, turning away from him and crossing her arms across her chest.

George stood, wide-eyed and terrified for a brief moment before he saw Alexandria's shoulders draw up shakily, and then she let out a deep sigh. "I didn't—are you crying?" he asked.

Alexandria turned around abruptly. "You rejected me," she said pitifully.

"No, I didn't," George said immediately. He moved closer to her, placing his hands on her elbows. "I'm just a bit confused. Just need you to tell me what's goin' on with you."
