WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1965
Time off was always scarce when it came to national stardom, and when George lost his perfect opportunity to propose to Alexandria, it was hard to find a "make-up" day because of his schedule. After their break in Los Angeles, the boys had had to finish off their tour of the States, and Alexandria had returned home by that point.
Now, they had the entire month off. Ringo and Maureen's baby was supposed to be born this month, so they'd worked their schedule around that. And because of that, George had found the perfect opportunity for him to take Alexandria away and propose. He'd reworked his genius plan from Los Angeles, and he relocated it to Liverpool. His shopping dates were turned into reminiscing. He'd decided to take her around the city, visiting some of the spots that had brought them together. He'd remind her of how far they'd come, how much they meant to one another, and then he'd pop the question.
The majority of today had been spent just getting to Liverpool, and that was a task, especially when Alexandria complained for half of the entire drive.
"You know, I thought that this driving would be a source of bonding for us...instead, it seems like you just want to kill me."
Alexandria popped a handful of smarties into her mouth and raised an eyebrow. "What makes you say that?" she asked as if she hadn't just gone off on a whole tangent about how much she hated being locked in a car with him.
George frowned. "Did you not just sit there and tell me that you'd rather be anywhere but this car right now?"
"Yeah, I said that," she answered. "Doesn't mean I want you dead. I just hate the car. Not you."
George rolled his eyes. "That's not what you said," he said.
"Yeah, it is," Alexandria responded, her eyes glued to the outside world as they rolled up and stopped in front of George's house. "Thank God," she said, opening the door.
"You're unbearable to be in a car with, you know," George said.
"You are too," Alexandria responded, finishing off her bag of smarties before grinning at George over the hood of his car.
George frowned. "I didn't even do anything!" he argued. "You were the one who complained the entire time!"
"Hey, don't state the obvious like that!" Alexandria scolded. "You're makin' me sound bad." She tucked a bit of hair behind her shoulders, her cheeks turning red.
"You're full of it," George grumbled. "Let's go see what Mum had prepared for dinner." His face brightened at that. "I told her that we were coming this time, so she could be prepared." George walked over to Alexandria's side of the car, placing a hand on the small of her back and leading her up to the front door.
