"Girls, I have news." I happily announced.

"Great! Me too!" Diane said.

Mavy suddenly perked up and got attentive all of a sudden when she heard Diane's voice.

"Ooh, you two should do it in unison," Mavy suggested and we both nodded.

"Ready? 1...2...3-"

"I came out!"

"I broke up with Sylvia!"

Gasps were heard and all of us remained silent, trying to process the fact that Diane had just broken up with her girlfriend, finally.

"You're gay?!!"

"That's great!"

"Wait, what?" Diane dumbfoundedly asked Mavy.

"I-I mean, Lane! That's great you finally came out! Not that I am happy that the two of you broke up. You two looked like an actual married couple and-"

"Mavy." I interrupted her continuous babbling.

Diane squinted her eyes, specifically at Mavy who is flustered again.

"Wait, so you're telling me that Lane has been gay the whole time?" Diane asked, the shocked look still not leaving her face.

"Yup, since we were in grade school." Mavy beamed.

"That explains the 'NBSB' in her profile."

"What profile?" I laughed and tried to look calm in front of my friends.

"Oh, I saw you on tinder. Why do you have to lie about your age, Lane?"

"Holy shit. You've been on that dating app??" Mavy loudly asked.

Why is everybody so loud?

"Jeez, calm down, Maves. Besides, I deleted that app years ago." I explained and sadly sighed as I remembered that no one swiped-right me.

"Aw, does the poor baby didn't get a date?" Diane pouted.

"Remind me again why are we friends with her, Mavy." I rolled my eyes and tried to not let out a laugh.

"Seriously? Not even a small talk, Lane?" Mavy asked with a glint of trouble in her eyes.

"Oh no..." I slowly backed away from the screen as Mavy kept on wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.

"Oh yes... Ms. Lover girl, can you help this baby gay in trouble?" Mavy referred to Diane who can't stop laughing.

"Yes, of course. We need to make you a new profile." She said between her laughs which made me look at them irritatingly.

"Are you all serious with this? Because I am not participating." I folded my arms and waited for their response.

"A hundred percent, love. Diane, get that profile done ASAP." Mavy said in her full command voice that made Diane lightly chuckle.

"Argh! Fine! Just to make you too busy with something."

"Yes!" They both cheered and we went on our separate ways.

"Are those Mavy and Diane?"

I turned my head and saw Mom at the doorframe with a basket of clothes on the floor. I smiled and stood up from my chair and fetched my clothes.

"Yep, that was them."

"I missed having those girls around."

I agreed and placed my clothes on the basket that she is currently lifting.

"One more thing, are they two together?"

I laughed and shooked my head. See? Even Mom knows it.

"Sadly, they aren't, yet."

"Aah, you see it too." She lightly punched my arm and laughed as she went to the laundry room.

As her footsteps echoed, I went to enter Gab's room only to find him still sleeping. He is usually playing or already outside at this time.

"Gab?"

I came near his bed and turned his little body towards him and shook him lightly. That's when I realized that his skin is hot, too hot.

"Mom! Gabby has a fever!"

I heard a few crashing and dropping off things until Mom was beside me, placing the back of her hand on Gab's forehead.

"He's burning hot. Start the car." She said in hurry and lifted Gab with her arms.

Grabbing the car keys, I rushed outside the house, wearing only my pajamas. I started the ignition and immediately assisted Mom in safely putting Gab inside.

I sat beside him and Mom drove us to the hospital.

I sent the girls a quick text to let them know that I won't be joining the call later. They didn't ask me a reason and just gave me a simple thumbs up.

We finally entered the hospital and Gab was quickly admitted inside one of the few rooms. We stood outside his door as we saw the nurse and doctor get into action. I advised my Mom to sit down but she declined and chose to linger at the door.

I decided to go to the cafeteria to buy us some snacks.

"Sorry, but the visits are assigned and limited to the patient."

"But I am his daughter! Let me the fuck in!"

My head swiftly turned to the other way of the hallway and saw someone in their hoodie and pants standing in front of the doctor who is massaging his temples irritatingly.

I chose to pass them since it is not my business and went straight to the cafeteria because we didn't get to eat our breakfast.

"Two of these and a water, please." I kindly smiled at the middle-aged woman as she prepared my order.

I leaned against the pillar as I waited for the two sandwiches to be cooked. As my eyes were roaming all over the cafeteria, my eyes caught the familiar figure sitting alone at the seat beside the window.

Seems like the Doctor didn't let her in.

"Two sandwiches and water."

I heard the lady say, I paid her as I grabbed the food and made my way back to Mom but I heard that same voice again.

"That's my fucking rights! Damn it, my Dad is in a very crucial case and you wouldn't let me see him?? You fucking prick!"

Security guards were stopping her from punching the tall guy standing calmly in front of her.

"Take this girl out of here." The guy commanded the security who immediately obliged and dragged the girl aggressively away.

They passed me and I just watched as the girl was being dragged. She lifted her head and her eyes pierced directly through me. I gasped and almost dropped the two precious sandwiches, her stare remained until she was completely out of the hallway.

"Don't mind her, that always happened during Tuesdays." The lady behind me said and went back to cooking.

I held the sandwiches tighter and walked back to Mom as I tried to process everything that has happened back there.

Why did I stand like a stone when I saw the look in her eyes?
