Lane's POV:
Alice and Kevdin were both passed out to the floor. I softly lowered Kevdin's head to the floor and carefully stood up.
I left my room and suddenly, two hands grabbed me by the wrist.
"Shh!"
It was Mavy and Diane.
"What- Why are you here?!" I said in a hushed tone.
"It's a long story. Now, we get you the hell out of here." Diane said and quickly led me to another room.
"Enjoying the party?"
Knowing the voice, I didn't dare to turn around.
"Oh, yes! It's very fun, so far." Mavy cheerfully said.
I heard Lucas chuckle.
"Haven, I didn't know you have friends."
I turned around and faced the guy himself. He checked me up and down before smiling so widely.
"If you can excuse us, we have a lot of catching up to do." Diane smiled and turned around to enter the room.
"Why the bedroom? Come on, don't be shy and join us in the living room. I am about to do my speech!"
We were forced to nod and awkwardly smile at Lucas who beckoned us to join him downstairs.
The three of us remained silent as we plopped down the seat.
"That was weird." I heard Mavy whisper beside me.
"That's Lucas, Kevdin's older brother."
"Figured it out," Diane said with a groan.
Our talk was interrupted by the sound of a utensil clinking to a glass. We found Lucas standing in front of the room and flashed a smile to everyone.
"Did you...did you just leave Kevdin alone upstairs?" Mavy asked.
"I kinda smashed a vase a to her head-"
"Jesus," Diane muttered quietly.
"Good evening, everyone. We all gathered here today for my 23rd birthday."
Everyone in the room clapped and whistled. We followed what they were doing and awkwardly smiled at Lucas.
"Also, the celebration of my ownership to my Dad's company!"
"The audacity."
I heard Mavy whisper. I gulped loudly when Lucas met her eyes for a bit.
"It's sad to say that the fate of a once most influential man in LakeShore, is at his bed at the hospital, the machines keeping him alive." Lucas sniffed and wiped a tear.
"Asshole," Diane whispered in a very low tone.
"It's a very sad...fate. But, as his son, I have to continue the legacy of our family."
"Cheers to the Lowes!" The guy behind us said, raising his glass of wine.
The people clapped their hands and hugged Lucas while saying "Sorry." and "Sorry for your loss."
I eyed the two who kept on rolling their eyes.
"Okay, what the hell is going on?"
The guests started to disperse from the living room, leaving the three of us and a few people around.
"Right, of course, you don't know."
"Come on, Mavs. It's not Lane's fault." Diane said.
I looked at them while patiently waiting for an answer.
