"Are you sure you want her to stay in your room?"

"Yup."

I asked my Mom if Kevdin can stay in my room so that she can lay in the bed. I don't want to hassle the other two from the next room who are probably getting into it again.

They helped me to bring Kevdin to the bed, where she is sleeping now. While I will sleep on the extra mattress situated on the floor.

I bid Mom goodnight and went inside my room and find that Kevdin wasn't on the bed anymore but standing on the balcony.

"Hey, aren't you tired?"

She turned her head to me and blew the smoke from cigarettes just like what we did that time we met.

"Did you know that we don't tolerate smoking in this household?" I kindly asked while looking at the waves of the beach.

"Oh! Sorry, I didn't know." She immediately stepped on the cigarette and smiled shyly.

Wow, she really just did that.

"Dude, I was just playing with you." I snickered.

"WHAT?!"

I flinched and Kevdin noticed it too.

"S-Sorry, I didn't mean that." She timidly said.

"It's fine."

We remained silent and the soft waves hitting the shore were the only sound that filled our silence.

"Seriously, smoking is not allowed here?" She quietly asked.

"Nah, of course, you could do what you want. It's just that the last time I saw a person smoke died a few years later." I said and sighed at the memory.

"I'm very sorry to hear that."

"It was my aunt, actually. My Mom tried stopping her addiction to nicotine but her aunt didn't stop. A few years later, we received the news about her funeral."

Kevdin was about to say something but decided to go against it so I just nodded and went to look back at the skies.

"That day you saw me at the hospital, I was there to visit my Dad who has been in a coma without me knowing."

I fully turned to her and listened attentively to the story.

"It was my big brother's fault. He kept on sending me away whenever I want to visit Dad, he kept on sending these bulky men who hid around the hospital to keep me away from visiting. That's why I got this." She lifted some of a few hairs away from her forehead and there it is, a long cut that became a light mark.

"I just got that the day after we met, so you know why I am on the verge of beating up every one I see." She had a guilty look plastered on her face.

"I am really sorry, Lane. I wish I could take the time back." She lowered her head and sighed heavily.

I put a hand on her shoulder to show that I understand.

"It's okay, Kevdin. I am also sorry for...this." I motioned the cut and bruises she earned from Diane.

"It's just that they are really protective of me."

"Yeah, I can see that. It's good that you have someone like them." She bitterly smiled.

"How about your brother?"

Her smile faded away and had a thoughtful look on her face.

"Which brother?"

Right.

"Your little brother."

She snickered and happily looked at the skies.

"Yeah, I love him to death. He stays here with my grandmother."

"You mean, you don't always see him?" I politely asked.

She didn't answer and I realized that I crossed the line too much.

"Shit, sorry. I won't ask that again-"

"My big brother, Lucas, also prevented me from seeing him."

"That, asshole," I  muttered.

"Yeah, he's one of a kind. Sean and grandma don't know anything, that's why I still get to visit them by being sneaky." She smiled mischievously.

"Is your family...like, involved in crimes going here-"

"I see where you are getting at, Lane." She jokingly said and sat at the railings of the balcony.

"Yes, my family is known for that stuff but not until Dad got admitted to the hospital. Everything suddenly stopped. Except for Lucas, he has the power to do everything now."

"What about you?"

She looked at me for a second and thought about the question.

"I guess just like what normal people do. Go study, get a degree, shop, watch cinemas-"

"Get married?"

She amusingly glared at me and I realized that what I said was too much.

"I-I mean..."

"And get married," Kevdin said while looking at me.

"I am happy that you won't get to do those things your older brother does." I looked away to hide my flustered face.

"Yeah, me too."
