"I'll meet you all at lunch, okay?"
We all nodded and Kevdin waved goodbye.
"Did she literally just transfer here?"
Funny how I ask the same question when Kevdin tagged along with us on the way to school. She didn't mention that she will be going there too.
"Rich people, am I right?" Diane scoffed.
Diane and Kevdin are on good terms now, although there are a few staredowns I'm sure they'll be good soon.
"This is my class. Bye guys."
They waved back and I entered the almost full classroom.
"Lane! Over here!"
My eyes went to the familiar voice that used to be my favorite and find the person I didn't expect to see.
"Alice?"
She motioned me to sit at the empty seat beside her.
"Hey! It's been a long time! How are you?"
Wow, she looked different now...Like, really different.
"Yeah...I-I'm good! Doing good actually." I break away from the sudden trance and smiled.
"I transferred here last week. Well, they asked me to start attending classes the next week, so...here I am! Sitting next to my savior." She beamed and tightly hugged me.
"It's good to see you again, Alice," I said before our teacher arrived at the room.
I kept on giving side-glances to Alice who noticed it and only winked. I decided to just focus on the lecture.
"Alice. Freaking. Ferreira."
"Hey, girl!"
The two hugged like they haven't seen each other for a long time, which is actually the scenario.
"God, you're looking sharp." Mavy teasingly said and looked directly at Alice's chest part.
Diane immediately stood tall in front of Mavy and introduced herself to Alice who look intimidated by Diane's strong built.
"Hey, I'm Diane, Mavy's girlfriend." She shook Alice's hands who gasped and stared wide-eyed at the two.
"You're not some kind of homophobe or something are you?" Diane defensively said.
"God, N-No. I just didn't know that Maverick is...gay."
"A lot has happened, Alice." I sighed and ushered her to our usual table, the two followed suit.
"Yeah, tell me about it. You look much better."
I smiled and someone from behind me placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Ah, I didn't know you have another member of the squad."
"Kevdin..." I warned.
"That's my seat." She whispered to already terrified Alice who sat at the other seat.
"Jeez, who is this?" She nervously said while looking between me and Kevdin because we are sitting awfully close.
"Oh, that's Kevdin," Mavy said.
Alice only nodded and weirdly looked at Kevdin.
"Is there a problem, Alice?" I chuckled to lighten the mood.
"No? You all just seemed...cozy to each other." She timidly said.
"Yeah, we're just gay." Kevdin shooked her shoulders and grabbed one of the sandwiches that my Mom prepared.
Alice gasped again, louder this time.
"Alright, that's it. If you don't like our company, get the hell out of here." Diane stood up harshly and pointed a finger at the cafeteria's exit.
We saw Alice confidently smile and suddenly her eyes landed on me.
"Lane, can we talk?"
"You can say it right here in front of us." Kevdin scoffed.
"Privately," Alice added.
This made Kevdin place the sandwich down and shield me away from Alice.
"Get your homophobe ass away from here."
"For Pete's sake! I am not a homophobe!"
"Then why are you acting like one?!"
The two started to argue and before they can make a bigger scene, I stood up and motioned for Alice to follow me.
"But-"
"It's fine, Kevdin." I softly smiled.
Alice looked at them and followed behind me.
"Alright, whatever you want to say, say it now-"
A pair of lips suddenly collided with mine. I didn't react until she started to aggressively move her lips upon me which made me harshly push her.
"Alice! What the hell?!" Is silently said to avoid another scene.
"That's what I wanted to tell you, Lane, for a long goddamn time."
"What do you mean?" I confusedly asked. She grabbed my hand and guided me to a seat nearby.
"I have always liked you, since that time when you defended me from those homophobe douchebags."
"Right..." I lowered my head.
"What do you mean 'Right?' My parents took me out of this school when they got the news about me being a lesbian. Now that my older sister can support me enough for school, I chose to get back here...to see you." She grabbed both my hands and placed a gentle kiss on top of them.
I quickly snatched my hands away from her and sighed.
"No, Alice. I am sorry but I don't feel the same, anymore" I sadly smile.
I used to have a big fat crush on Alice when she was just a shy girl who always watch our band practice. The day after our performance, I saw Alice being harshly pushed to the ground by some jocks. I immediately stood in front of Alice protectively and made some threats to the jocks who easily got scarred and rushed out of the school.
"You're joking." She laughed.
"No." I smiled and stood up, ready to leave.
"Lane..."
"I am truly sorry, Alice. Look, it's good that you let me know about this, I used to like you before but...I just don't- Bye, Alice."
"That girl...Kevdin."
This made me freeze in my place at the mention of her name.
"What about her?" I innocently asked.
"She was friends with the person who saw me making out with a girl and told my parents about it. She's the one who outed me, Lane. That's why the fucking beatings started." She angrily said and took slow steps towards me.
"No..." I breathed.
I can't believe it...
"Yes. Hell! She doesn't even feel guilty when she saw me earlier! How can you be with someone like her?!"
"Tone it down, Alice, and what do you mean by being with someone like her?"
"You're sleeping with the enemy." She folded her arms.
"What- We're not in a relationship!" I frustratingly said and walked away from Alice.
"Much better then, now we can be finally together." She stole a quick kiss and happily skipped to the hallway.
Unbelievable.
