Aria's POV

Alastor and I decided since we were already out, we would walk around for a bit. It's not really surprising that Angel ditched us to get some quick cash.

Something that I quickly noticed was the lack of demons that bothered us. I mean, none of them barely even gave us a glance. It was weird.

I'm used to getting catcalled, prodded, forced around, and anything under the sun...but everyone seems to be scared, almost.

Has something happened that we didn't hear about? Oh, now I'm nervous...

I turned to Alastor, tugging on his sleeve slightly with my hand that was rested on his forearm.

"Hm?" He answered my silent request, and I leaned towards him so I could whisper.

"Why is everyone so scared? Should we be scared? What are they all hiding from..." I said, glancing at the demons that were ducking away and cowering.

Alastor took in a deep breath and let out a soft chuckle.

"Me."

Pardon?

I nearly tripped over my own feet after he said that, and tilted my head.

"Y-you...? What...what do you mean?" I asked him confusedly. He hummed softly and turned towards the entrance of a small park.

"I mean they're all hiding from me, sweetheart...this is my territory," he explained, not making anything any clearer.

Territory? The fuck?

I was silent for a moment, contemplating just pretending like I understand...but I'm really curious.

"I'm confused..." I said quietly, glancing up at him timidly. I don't want to be annoying, but I really do not know what he's going on about.

He looked down at me, and then stopped for a second. I stopped as well and turned towards him, releasing his arm so I could face him properly.

"What has you confused, honey?" He asked me gently. I felt immediately appreciative of his patience, and I thought over my words.

"I just...I'm not sure what you mean by "territory"...isn't Hell just...one big territory?" I asked him, tilting my eyebrow. He looked amused, a glimmer in his eye as his lips quirked up a bit more into a broader grin.

"Oh dear..." he said quietly, mostly to himself, and then he shook his head, and chuckled again. He held his arm out for me once more, and slowly I took it.

"Let's not block the pathway...I've got a lot to explain to you, honey. I should have expected it since you didn't even know who the princess was," he said, and I took his arm and started to walk with him.

With that, he went into the deep politics of hell. It's a lot more complex than I would've believed.

Overlords? Princes? Rings? King Lucifer? Ugh, I hate politics.

By the end of it all I was wearing a face of disgust, my ears lowered flat on my head.

The only part that I really cared about, was the part about him.

"So, you're an overlord?" I asked him, and he hummed.

"Mmhm, I am. I own and control the territory you see around you, and a few more throughout the pentagram. This is my largest, however," he explained and I looked up at him.

If he's an overlord...and seems content where he is...

"Why did you help me?" I asked suddenly, and he completely stopped walking, nearly making me fall over.
