Aria's POV

The limo ride was filled with casual conversation, the seven of us comfortably seated on the wrap around cushioned seats.

Husk and Niffty sat together, Angel was flirting with Husk, and Charlie and Vaggie were holding hands.

Alastor was sitting next to me, his hands rested in his lap. Him and I were avoiding eye contact, and there was just barely a blush on my face.

My hands sat in my lap, my fingers gently tapping against each other. Him and I were currently the only ones sitting silently.

"You look lovely, dear..."

His voice coming softly from next to me startled me, and I jumped slightly. Chuckling quietly, I looked over at him.

I had to physically fight against the urge to lower my ears as our eyes met. His half lidded gaze and soft grin made my stomach do a flip.

Immediately my brain returned to that moment in his office, his body so close to mine...

I shook the image away, and gave him a smile.

"Thanks...I never thanked you, by the way..." I said back, quietly. Everyone else was engrossed in their own activities, Alastor and I speaking within our own little bubble.

"What would you need to thank me for?" He asked me, tilting his head. I gestured to my outfit, and his eyes widened.

A tint of color appeared on his face, and he looked up and rubbed the back of his neck.

"Oh...yea..." he chuckled, "I just saw that you seemed to really enjoy it...so, it was no bother purchasing it," he said sheepishly.

I found this cute, and reached over to poke his leg.

"Aw, are you embarrassed?" I teased him, and quickly he cleared his throat and fixed his posture. The smile on his face also widened.

"I do not get embarrassed, my dear," he said, narrowing his eyes on me.

I narrowed my eyes back, smirking at him.

I was surprised when that playful challenge caused his ears to lay back.

Covering my mouth as I suppressed a laugh, he glanced up as if trying to see his head, and quickly fixed his ears.

Soon, the once slightly awkward silence between us melted into comfortable conversation.

We got deeply into the topic of Christian holidays, Christmas specifically.

"Oh, I love Christmas," I said with a big smile, and he sat silently, smiling softly at me.

"The lights, the colors..." I closed my eyes and sighed, "I loved baking Christmas cookies when I was alive," I said, opening my eyes.

He was giving me that look again. The one where I know he's piecing me together like a puzzle.
