Aria's POV

"Hey...do you want to be my date for the party?"

That's too forward...

"Hey, Al...no, no that's...too casual...Alastor! Do you wanna come to the party with me...?"

I stared at my reflection, my wide smile slowly deflating. My ears lowered and I blew a piece of hair away from my eyes in frustration.

I decided to let the office mishap go, and instead try to focus on something a little less heavy.

Asking him to be my date to the party.

However, it seems that no matter how many times I practice, nothing sounds right.

I groaned, putting my head into my hands.

Then I took a deep breath, and shook off the nerves. I hopped back and forth on my toes for a second and then flashed my reflection a smile again.

"You got this, bitch." I said confidently to my reflection.

Surface confidence. Surface confidence. Surface confidence.

It doesn't matter if I'm actually confident, or not...as long as I have surface confidence, we'll be fine.

I'll be fine.

"It's just Alastor," I muttered to myself with a little shrug.

Then my brows furrowed and my lips pursed together nervously.

His figure passed through my head, bright red eyes and threatening smile.

Heat rose to my face quickly, and I let out a sigh.

"Shit..." I whispered, then turned to my door. I gripped the doorknob, and with that action, I set my plan into motion.

Go to Alastor's room.

Knock on the door.

Ask him out.

Why am I sweating...

As I exited my room, I glanced up and down the hallway. My eyes landed on the door next to mine, room 448.

I took a deep breath, making my way towards the door.

I had purposely procrastinated to the last possible second...so I have to do this tonight.

Really, I've been avoiding him all week...

On the way there I was muttering to myself what I was going to say to him.

Way too soon, I was in front of his door. My hands started shaking and I quickly wiped them against my pants to try and calm my nerves.

One more deep breath and my knuckles met the door in a quick, but solid, knock.

Waiting there after that in silence felt like a decade. In reality, it only took him about 10 seconds to answer the door.

As soon as he opened it, it was as if every single thought in my head disappeared. He wasn't wearing his coat, and his red dress shirt was tucked into dark slacks.

His suspenders were off his shoulders, laying at his sides.

Bow tie undone, hanging around his neck.

Heat flooded my face, and I was debating whether it was too late to turn around and go back to my room.

"Hello darling," his silky voice addressed me.
