I rewrote this chapter three times. It is long as hell. Enjoy.
Aria's POV
Xander's teleportation felt nothing like Alastor's.
The moment we arrived at our destination, I doubled over and vomited. My knees met rough concrete, I could feel the scrapes forming.
My entire body was shaking and he grabbed me by the back of the neck and forced me to stand, allowing me to get a full view of where we were.
We seemed to be on top of a building, a moderately tall one. The glittering lights of the city stretched out in front of me as far as I could see.
This feels surreal.
I didn't take the danger I was in seriously...everyone did their best to protect me...
Alastor...all he wanted was for me to be safe.
Yet here I am, standing on the top of a building who knows where with someone that wants to kill me.
"Where are we..." I barely spoke, my voice coming out small. I was actually scared he may punish me for just speaking, but he didn't seem to care, answering casually.
"Oh, just on top of a building I own," he hummed, "I just wanted somewhere that we would have enough time to kill you before he gets here," he finished.
My blood ran cold and I just kept my eyes towards the city. I was searching for any sign of him, any sign that he may be close.
But there was nothing.
Just flashing lights and loud music bumping up from the streets below.
Taking in a deep breath, I closed my eyes. Then I felt his hand against the back of my neck again and he dug his claws in slightly, making me wince.
He pulled me back harshly and then shoved me to the ground.
I hit the concrete with a soft thud, whimpering on impact and hissing slightly at my now scraped elbow.
"Ezekiel, come finish your task," he said, and my eyebrows furrowed.
I looked up and that's when I saw another man approaching me, dressed in grey and carrying a spear.
An angel's spear.
My eyes widened and I looked up at him, my eyes widening even further when I saw who it was.
"You..." I breathed out softly, "you're the man from the store..."
He gave me that same smile that he wore in the store, nodding slightly.
"Yes...hello, Aria...it's been a minute, has it not?" He said as if we were old friends.
I got up and stumbled back away from him, nearly losing my balance again. I turned my head, trying to find Xander.
He was gone.
It was now just me and...Ezekiel, I think he called him.
"I don't...I've never met you..." I said, and he tilted his head.
"Of course, I wouldn't expect you to remember..." he chuckled, "I am father Ezekiel, former minister at the Vatican..."
Just then I remembered that night so long ago.
The night I died.
"You're the priest..." I whispered, "the one Rosaline brought back..."
He nodded.
Shaking my head, I kept the distance between us safe enough, and we just slowly circled one another.
"Yes. The one your partner killed...so you do remember," he said, and I could hear the clear distaste in his tone.
