For the first time in what felt like months I decided to sleep in this morning and I'm glad I did. It was actually really nice to wake up with Sadie in my arms instead of having to slip out of the room quietly. After Sadie showered, and I kept watch, I hurried up with my own shower and went back to the room.
"Don't you have a test today?" I asked, pulling my shirt over my head and feeling pleased when I caught Sadie checking me out before looking away quickly.
"Yeah unfortunately, I feel like I didn't even study enough," Sadie whined, catching the hoodie I tossed to her and turning to face her dresser. I took a few steps to close the distance between us, reaching out to touch her soft hair. I don't know why I did it, her hair looked beautiful and soft so I had to touch it. I brushed her hair off of her back and over her shoulder, bending down to plant a soft kiss at the base of her neck. I wonder if she'd slap me for this.
Before I was able to follow through with my plan, something slammed against our window, causing both of us to jump.
"What the hell was that?" I rushed over to the window to look outside. Rain was pouring down and the wind was whipping trees around like it was nothing, small branches and other debris was flying around, smacking into cars and the buildings around. "I didn't know there was going to be a storm today,"
"Do you think-" Sadie was cut off by the power going out, our room turning almost completely dark. I was able to grab Sadie and pull her into me before my eyes were able to adjust to the darkness. Thankfully we had a small glow from the window, but it was pretty dark outside too.
"You aren't scared of the dark, are you?" I was trying not to laugh as Sadie hit me in the chest.
"Hey! Everyone get downstairs," Charlie was yelling in the hallway before pushing open everyone's doors and continuing to yell. Everyone was using their phone's flashlights to navigate out of the rooms, down the hall and into the stairwell. I stayed right behind Sadie, holding on to her hips maybe a little too tight, as we made it down to the lobby.
When we finally got down there, a few camping lanterns were set up to provide a soft glow of light so that we could see Mr. Finn standing on one of the coffee tables, telling everyone to calm down and stop talking.
"Chunk, get over here," I reached out and grabbed Chunk's sleeve, pulling him in front of Sadie. Although Sadie had been told by the school to live in our dorm, the last thing I wanted was Mr. Finn seeing a girl in the Wellington dorm and creating problems. Mr. Finn was great at causing problems.
"Alright, everyone listen up! Quiet down," Mr. Finn's voice called out and slowly everyone settled down, "Obviously the power is out, I don't know how long it's going to be out so don't bother asking me. We are being told by the Principal to stay indoors, so don't leave this building today. All classes are cancelled for today so I would use this spare time for studying and catching up on your school work,"
"Don't burn the building down either," Mr. Finn gave us all a pointed look, knowing damn well none of us would be studying today or catching up on homework. Taking a deep breath, looking more annoyed than anything else, Mr. Finn hopped off the coffee table and walked out the front doors.
"Didn't he just say we aren't supposed to go outside?" Jayden asked, the group burst out in laughter while Sid locked the front doors so we wouldn't have any interruptions.
"Now that no one can get in or out," Sid turned to look at all of us with an excited grin, "It's time to party!"
That was our cue. Us guys had this all planned out since the beginning of the school year. Classes being cancelled was a rare thing, a very rare thing, so when it does happen we are prepared.
