It had been 3 weeks since Sadie left and I still hadn't heard back from her.

Jackie was doing her best to keep my spirits up but my hope was starting to disappear, fast. I felt like talking to any of the guys about it would be pointless too. Charlie was really the only one who I felt comfortable talking to but he had become so distant lately.

"We could always just go surprise her," Squid mentioned while we walked to the cafeteria together.

"That would be creepy, to just show up on her doorstep?" I sighed and jerked the door open, "I don't know what to do at this point,"

As soon as Squid and I sat down at our table with Dylan, Jayden and Chunk, Jackie and Josie were immediately sitting down across from us.

"Have you heard from her yet?" Jackie pestered, causing my mood to sour even more.

"You just asked me this morning, no I have not heard from her in those four hours," I slouched down in my chair, not hungry enough to get in line and grab some lunch.

"You don't have to be so grouchy," Josie mentioned, giving me a cold glance before turning to Jackie, "There's gotta be something we can do, it's been like  a month,"

"Three weeks," Jackie and I said at the same time, but not making eye contact. I was too busy staring at my shoes.

A heavy silence lingered while everyone sat, glancing from one another without any answers. Jackie looked as hopeless as I felt and I could feel the last bit of hope disappearing. Maybe I'd hear from Sadie sometime this summer when she got her phone back or something. That's about all I could hope for.

"Hey Kent," Jace jogged up to our table, "something was delivered for you, it's in the office,"

In an instant everyone's face, including mine, lit up. Had Sadie finally wrote back to me? Before Jace had even sat down at the table I was up on my feet and sprinting out the cafeteria doors. Sadie had finally sent a letter to me. I knew I'd hear from her again, I just knew it.

I didn't slow down as I bolted from the cafeteria over to the main building with the office and principals office inside. A teacher yelled at me to stop running inside but I didn't care, I rushed through the glass doors and took the first left down the hallway where the office door was wide open.

Slowing down to a reasonable pace, I walked into the office and instead of a love letter waiting for me, there was a thick envelope on the counter and Missy's eyes were peering over the top of them at me.

"It's from your dad," Missy commented, snapping her gum and continuing to scroll through Facebook or whatever it was on her computer.

"Since when do you work in the office?" I asked, grabbing the envelope and feeling sadness rush through my body again, realizing Sadie hadn't sent me anything.

"Since when do you care?" Missy fired back but I was too busy examining the large envelope my dad had sent me. What the hell was in there? Ignoring Missy, I reached out and grabbed the scissors out of her fancy pen holder-cup thing, and cut off the top of the envelope.

I reached in and pulled out three thick college application packets for Ivy League schools that my parents had picked out for me. The sad feelings I had were quickly replaced with anger. Why were they sending me college applications right now? I had other things to worry about at the moment. College applications could wait until summer.

"Seems like your parents have your future laid out for you," Missy hummed, peering over at what I was holding in my hands.

"Don't you have anything better to do," I grumbled, shoving the applications back into the envelope.

Missy's cold eyes glared into mine for a moment before she was suddenly smiling at me, catching me off guard with her kindness out of nowhere.

"Have a great day, Kent," Missy turned her attention back to her social media, not before I saw that familiar evil gleam in her eyes, and continued humming to herself.

Whatever Missy was up to now, I didn't want to know.

I shoved the envelope in my backpack just as the bell ran to signal lunch being over. I decided I'd look over the packets later to appease my parents but for now I just needed to get to class and try not to think about Sadie.

"That would be awesome, thanks man," I handed Charlie the final letter I had decided to write to Sadie, double checking the address first, "Seriously, I owe you,"

Charlie seemed to be doing better today than he had the past couple of days.

"Don't worry about it," Charlie closed the door behind him and I was alone in my room again. At least I wouldn't have to make the walk back to the office again and I wouldn't have to see Missy either. I wonder how long she had been working in the office.

I sat on my bed with my back against the wall, just staring at the bed that Sadie used to sleep in. Well, with how much I had slept in that bed too it might as well be mine. I missed her. I missed looking over and seeing her studying or hearing her snoring in the middle of the night. I missed cuddling her while she fell asleep so fast, like she always did.

Those stupid curtains she had hung up were still tied up and out of the way, I couldn't help but smile at the memory. So why hadn't she talked to me? Why hadn't she written back? Was there someone else now?

A new sort of dread sank into my stomach. Had Sadie found someone else...already?
