Yeah, blowing a whistle in my roommate's face would have been efficient in waking her up, but that wouldn't have been as fun as pouring water all over her.
I was taken over by laughter as I watched a soaking wet Sadie squirm out of her bed and within seconds she was scolding me.
"I seriously can't believe you just did that!" She screamed, throwing her damp pillow at me and hurrying towards her dresser to grab a change of clothes.
"You're late," I replied, pointing at the clock between our beds and winking at her, "Have a great first day, Princess,"
I slipped out the door and quickly headed towards the showers at the end of the hall. Knowing Sadie, she might come after me but she wouldn't step foot in the showers this morning. Half the floor was already in there.
As soon as I walked into the showers, the boys began giving me looks, head nods and whispering among themselves. I expected that much. No one has ever had a female as a roommate here before. It's unheard of, but the problem will be resolved quickly.
"How was your evening?" Charlie asked from where he stood in the short stall beside me with a curious tone. I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"I haven't been this annoyed with a girl since 8th grade year," I glanced over at Charlie and he started laughing, knowing exactly who I was referring to back in our 8th grade class.
"She didn't seem all that bad," He replied, starting to wash his hair.
"Do you want to trade roommates then?" I snapped and Charlie laughed again.
"Uh, no, that's okay,"
We were quiet for a few moments, listening to a few of the others guys talking around us.
"How's your mom doing?" I finally asked, remembering the phone call he had gotten from his mom yesterday. I had been meaning to ask him about it.
"She's fine, just always stressing about something," Charlie seemed to stiffen at the mention of his family and I knew he wasn't telling the truth. We had known each other for a long time after all.
"You sure there isn't something going on?"
Before Charlie could answer my question we were interrupted by Chunk and Dyllan, taking the stalls on either side of us.
"How's it going with the new girl?" Chunk asked from the other side of Charlie while I slapped Dyllan's hand away from my shampoo.
"I only have soap," Dyllan whined but I ignored him and turned towards Chunk.
"She's not going to be here for long, there's no way," I replied confidently, lathering up my shampoo in my palms.
"Why do you say that?" Dyllan asked, he sounded closer to me than I liked and that meant he was probably stealing my shampoo again.
"Do you really think any girl can handle living with this amount of horny teenage guys?" I asked, while keeping my head back to wash the shampoo out of my hair.
"She seemed cool to me," Chunk muttered but I ignored him too.
"Don't be a dick to her, Kent," Charlie scoffed at me before turning off his own shower and grabbing his towel.
"Why do you think I'll be a dick to her?" Maybe Missy had said something to Charlie about our break up or one of our fights. They had been hanging out a lot this summer, but maybe right now wouldn't be the right time to bring it up.
"Maybe Sadie will fit in here after all, you never know," Charlie shrugged his shoulders then turned to head out, ignoring my question, "See you guys later,"
"Did you use your study period for first period too?" Dyllan asked, setting my shampoo bottle back down on the ledge. I grabbed the bottle quickly and glared at Dyllan who sheepishly grinned while lathering up his hair.
"Of course I did, that's the only perk of becoming a junior - being able to plan your schedule," That was something I had been looking forward to since freshman year. The one year I was going to have my own dorm room too, ruined.
Chunk, Dyllan and I hurried to finish our showers, silently.
I grabbed my own towel and dried off quickly before securing it around my hips and beginning the walk back to my dorm room. I turned back to Dyllan before I left the shower room, "Get your own damn shampoo,"
After getting dressed, Charlie and I walked over to the cafeteria to get some breakfast and start heading towards our classes. All of the girls seemed to be extra dressed up for the first day of school, but most of the guys looked like they did any other day. The freshmen were usually the worst though.
Without much warning, Charlie split off to talk to a few of the other girls in our grade who were sitting on one of the benches and I spotted Sadie across the way, walking with some other girl.
I walked over to her quickly and gently bumped into her, "Hey trouble,"
"I'll, uh, catch up with you later Sadie,"" The girl, I believe her name is Jackie, said before rushing off in the opposite direction. She was the girl Squid had been crushing on, I think.
"Making new friends, are we?" I asked, watching Jackie hurry off behind us before turning to look back at Sadie who looked extremely annoyed.
"What do you want?" She growled, not even looking at me.
"Aw come on, why so grouchy? Is someone having a rough first day?" I asked in a baby voice, reaching out to pretend to wipe a tear from her cheek but Sadie slapped my hand away before I could. She still wouldn't look at me.
"Maybe if someone hadn't poured water on me this morning my day would be going slightly better," She finally spilled out before yanking open the door to the building our next class was in. I laughed and grabbed her elbow, gently tugging her out of the traffic of students in the hallway.
"Consider it a favor, you slept past your alarm anyway," It was satisfying to know I was getting to Sadie, but I might have gone a little far with the whole water thing this morning. So to make up for it, "Follow me, I think I have something that'll cheer you up, Princess,"
Hopefully the guys would be cool with me exposing our hide out to the new girl, but all the guys had seemed pretty cool with her this morning.
"Don't call me that," Sadie snapped at me but I just shrugged down at her and tugged her down the hall, back the way we had just came.
"Whatever, just come on,"
