Missy seemed to ignore my question for the fifth time as she glared down Sadie from the other side of the room. Sadie had managed to stuff her dress into the closet in the mean time without anyone really seeing it, all I knew was the dress was red.
"Obvi, if I went through this trouble," Missy whined, throwing her arm in the direction of my decorated bed, "I'm not joking,"
I glanced over to see Charlie starting to straighten up Sadie's bed and for some reason I didn't like the idea of him even touching Sadie's things. Why would he ask Sadie to the dance if he told me he had no feelings for her? Was this some sort of revenge thing he was trying to accomplish?
"I already asked Sadie," I replied, watching Missy's face twist with anger and the room fell silent again. I kept my eyes on Sadie the whole time, wanting to see her reaction and how she really felt about this situation. I'm sure our feelings were mutual.
"You what?" Charlie suddenly snapped, leaving Sadie's bed a mess and now facing me again.
I opened my mouth to explain to Charlie that Sadie and I were planning on going to the dance together when suddenly Ryan was standing in our room with a bouquet of daisies.
"Those better not be for Sadie," Missy was practically oozing with jealousy and anger, which I didn't mind one bit. Maybe it would finally give her a taste of her own medicine. Although this wasn't even close to what she had put me through in the past.
"Heck no," Ryan quickly said before turning to Sadie to comfort her, "not that you aren't drop dead gorgeous Sadie, hun, I'm just here to ask Kent to the dance actually," Ryan sent a quick wink my way and I could feel my face starting to burn. He was here to ask me to the dance? But Ryan knew I didn't swing that way. . .
"You're asking Kent to the dance?" Charlie blurted out, eyeing the flowers in Ryan's hands and glancing between Sadie and I.
"Last I heard he didn't have a date," Ryan simply shrugged and winked at Charlie which seemed to make him even more upset, "Not jealous are you?"
"Not in the slightest," Charlie rolled his eyes and straightened up a bit, his jaw tense.
Ryan glared at Charlie before tossing the flowers onto my bed.
"Look, I really appreciate it and all Ryan, but I've kind of already asked Sadie," I glanced over at Sadie who looked like a deer caught in headlights and shrugged slightly, hoping I wasn't hurting Ryan's feelings too much.
"And I said yes," Sadie quickly added in, smiling towards Missy who looked like she was ready to explode.
"It's about time then," Ryan exclaimed, clapping his hands together and smiling at the two of us, not bothered one bit by my answer.
"That would have been nice to know earlier," Charlie shook his head and cleared his throat awkwardly, "I'm gonna go,"
The three of us watched in silence as Charlie quickly exited our room and slammed his door shut across the hall.
"This is such bullshit," Missy moaned, following in Charlie's footsteps and stomping from the room.
"Sorry you went through the trouble Ryan," I reached out and slung my arm across Sadie's shoulders, pulling her closer to my side and smiled at Ryan, "If Sadie hadn't beat you to it, I totally would've gone to the dance with you,"
Ryan laughed and waved his hands in front of his chest, "Don't be silly. I only asked you to make Charlie jealous but I think it might be time to move on from that fantasy,"
"He's not worth it Ryan," Sadie whispered, looking apologetic. Ryan stepped forward and wrapped her in a tight bear hug.
"You really are too sweet," He let go of Sadie and turned to face me before leaving, "Don't screw this one up, got it?"
"I don't plan on it," I pulled Sadie close to me again and planted a kiss on the top of her head while Ryan cooed over how cute we were.
"I'll see you cuties around," Then Ryan was gone as well and it was just Sadie and I left in our room finally.
"What a night," I sighed but grinned down at Sadie who looked drained from the recent drama, "I didn't know a dance would cause so much drama,"
"I think anything involving you causes drama," Sadie elbowed me in the side and laughed when I swatted another incoming blow away from me.
"Very funny," I was tempted to steal a glance at her dress for the dance but decided not to, she'd probably kick my ass for peaking anyway. As Sadie fished for some pajamas to put on I grabbed my away game jersey from my backpack and tossed it in her direction.
"Here," I called out right as the jersey left my hand but it wasn't enough time for Sadie to react and I watched as it smacked her in the face and fell to the floor. "Whoops, forgot how clumsy you are,"
Sadie glared at me playfully and picked up the jersey with a sigh, "Normal people would give someone a heads up first,"
"I think you're gonna pull that off better than I do," I admitted with a wink her direction, satisfied when I saw the familiar blush creeping up her face. "I've gotta call my dad really quick, I'll be right back,"
As I left the room I quickly made my way down to the parking lot and to my car. I contemplated calling Charlie but decided that'd probably be a bad idea. As soon as I set my phone down on the passenger seat it began ringing.
It was Charlie's mom.
"Hey Colleen, is everything okay?" Charlie's mom had become like a second mother to me since we had known each other for so long and since I used to eat all the food in their house along with Charlie.
"Hi honey, I'm sorry to bother you but I've been worried about Charlie," She sounded stressed out and knowing her she was pacing back and forth in their kitchen as we spoke, "He hasn't been answering my phone calls or texts,"
So Charlie had been acting distant with his parents as well, not just me.
"He seems to be doing okay, I think he might be going through something but he hasn't been talking to me about it much," I explained trying not to think too much about it. Charlie went through these phases where he became more private, but soon enough he'd snap out of it and be back to his old self.
"Oh dear, okay, well if you wouldn't mind would you be willing to keep a close eye on him and let me know if anything changes," Colleen must have set her phone down for a second, her voice sounded far away and I heard a door open in the background meaning Charlie's dad just got home from work.
"Yeah I can do that, I'll talk to you soon,"
"Thank you honey, goodbye,"
I hung up the phone and in a split second decided to start the forty-five minute drive to my house. I'm sure my mom would love to see me and I needed to talk to them about possibly inviting Sadie over for winter break so they could meet her.
My stomach turned into knots almost immediately at the thought of my parents meeting Sadie. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that they'd love her but the last time I had introduced my mother to the girl I was seeing it didn't end well. Then again that girl was Missy and Missy had nothing on Sadie.
