Charlie tossed the football back over to me before sighing and leaning back into the wall that my bed was pushed against. Ever since Sadie had moved in my room always smelled good, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing but the guys were already starting to talk about it.
"It's not like I ever gave the guy any hope," Charlie continued to ramble while I spun around aimlessly in my chair.
"Just forget about Ryan, he flirts with all of us guys but he's the best pitcher we've had so far," I tossed the ball back to Charlie and he barely caught before it hit his face, "Besides, you know if you ever did have feelings for him, it's cool, right?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" He sat up fast, obviously offended. I stopped spinning around and stared at my best friend.
"I mean, asshat, that I'll support you no matter who you want to be with," I grabbed the football out of his hands while he scowled at me. We've had this conversation twice before and one of those times we were drunk. Charlie obviously didn't like to talk about it.
As Charlie opened his mouth to reply, the door swung open and in stomped Sadie, looking more pissed off than normal.
"You're back early, did things go alright?" Charlie asked, his mood suddenly shifting from the hostile to caring in two seconds flat. I continued to stare at Sadie, waiting for her reply. This ought to be good.
"You never told me she was a clingy, crazy ex of yours Kent," Sadie snapped, throwing her bag on her bed and sitting down with a loud sigh. Both Charlie and I began laughing, causing Sadie to become even more upset.
"We both tried to warn you not to get caught up in Missy," I replied, making sure to roll my eyes dramatically so Sadie saw.
"All you had to tell me was that she's a maniac and I think that would've done the job," Sadie said, glaring at me but I could only shrug. Even if I had tried to explain everything to Sadie, which it would take too long anyway, she never would've listened. Girls never listen.
"Chill, trust me Missy is emotionally unstable and extremely dramatic, but it's not like she's going to do anything," Charlie said, grabbing a magazine off my nightstand. He should know, they've been friends a lot longer than Missy and I had ever been and he made sure to be there for her when we broke up too.
"She doesn't want me to be around Kent because they're going to be getting back together soon," Sadie explained in a serious tone but, again, Charlie and I started laughing. Typical Missy, already starting drama so early in the year. Sadie continued to glare at us.
"Like I said, we tried to warn you, it's not our fault you don't listen," I muttered, glancing over at Sadie but looking away before we could make eye contact. Maybe Charlie was right, she was a little bit cute. Maybe.
Charlie stood up from where he was sitting right before Sadie was about to start yelling and walked towards the door.
"I'm getting out of here before the two of you start fighting," I turned to glare at Sadie now as Charlie chuckled and left the room.
"I don't know why this is such a big deal to you," I mumbled again, sighing and leaning back into my chair.
"You could've just told me that Missy was your ex and it made you uncomfortable," Something in Sadie's tone had changed, it was almost condescending. I stood and laid down on my bed, facing away from Sadie's concerned looks. She has no business knowing about my past.
"It's none of your business, brat," As soon as the words left my mouth I wished I could take them back. Why couldn't I just think before speaking to her?
