Charlie, my best friend, continued to listen to his mom ramble on through the phone while we tossed a baseball back and forth in my dorm room. I looked around my dorm room with pride, knowing that I wouldn't have to share this space with anyone this year. Charlie had been jealous that I was the only one without a roommate on the floor this year.
"I'll call you later mom," Charlie tried for what seemed like the tenth time to get his mom off the phone but I could still hear her talking to him, as if he hadn't said anything at all. "Yes, I have been. No you don't need to ask him,"
With that being said Charlie ended the phone call and tossed it beside him on the empty bed he was sitting on. Before I had the chancer to ask what she had been nagging him about this time, Dyllan popped his head into the room with a goofy grin on his face.
"You guys are gonna wanna see this," He wiggled his bushy eyebrows at us in excitement then as quickly as he had appeared, he disappeared out into the hallway.
The hallway had seemed to get oddly quiet and when Charlie and I finally made it out of my room I knew exactly why.
What the hell was a girl even doing here?
"Who the hell are you?" I called out, pushing past Chunk and Phillip to stand in front of the short, but somewhat athletic looking girl. Her wide eyes stared back up at me and for a moment I forgot how irritated at Sid for letting a girl on the elevators. No girls were allowed up here, that's just how it's always been.
"My name's Sadie," She replied, straightening her shoulders a bit probably in an attempt to appear more confident than she was. How tall was this girl anyway? She couldn't be taller than 5'0", maybe 5'1". Either way, I towered over her as she continued to stare up at me, waiting for a response.
"Do you want to tell us why you're in our dorm? The guy's dorm," I emphasized the fact that this was an all boys dorm and last I checked the school wasn't too cool with the idea of girls and boys dorming together.
"There wasn't enough room for me in the girls dorms," She explained quickly, her cheeks beginning to turn a light shade of pink. I could feel the rest of the guys' eyes burning into my bare back.
"So what, you're supposed to live here with us now? Is that even allowed?" I leaned away from the short girl, Sadie, and crossed my arms, glancing towards a few of the guys who shook their heads.
"I guess it is now," A few of the boys behind me chuckled and I think one even tried to whistle. I wonder if this girl even knew what she was getting herself into with this pack of wild and annoying teenage boys.
"Do you at least play sports?" I sighed and nodded towards the girls dorms across campus, "or are you one of those prissy princesses, like down the way?"
She looked confused by my question, glancing around before slowly answering, "Basketball and I run in track,"
"I guess that makes you a half jock, sort of," I scoffed, rolling my eyes and uncrossing my arms when I heard Charlie snap at me, saying something about being rude.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Sadie asked and I couldn't help but groan in frustration. This is why girls aren't allowed here, they question everything all the time.
"Do you know anything? This is a jocks dorm, made specifically for tri-sport athletes. Every guy in this dorm has to play at least two sports but almost all, excusing two or three, play year roud. You're just lucky you even play a sport," I made sure to lean in closer to her, not too close though. "We don't like games off the field so if you plan on bringing drama in here you might as well leave. Don't think you belong here, but if you stay out of our way you just might survive,"
I must have made her mad because now she was glaring up at me.
"I don't do well with threats," Something about the way she said that sparked curiosity inside me, so she did have a feisty side afterall.
"Deal with it sweetheart, you're on our turf now so either play by the rules or get your ass beat," She kept her cold, yet calm, gaze on me the whole time and it was clear she wasn't backing down from me. I had to admit, she had peaked my interest.
"All I need is a place to sleep, other than that you won't even notice I'm here, got it?" A couple of the guys that were still paying attention snickered, knowing most girls wouldn't talk to me that way.
'What room are you supposed to be in?" I held out my hand for her to show me her room number. I just wanted this moment to be over already, it was getting boring.
"824," She muttered, almost dropping her keys as she fiddled with them clumsily. She may come off as confident but I didn't miss her shaking hands.
"Of course," How did I know it was too good to be true?
I turned around after tossing Sadie's keys back into her hands and rushed to my dorm room. The room I was supposed to have all to myself this year. My freedom had just been taken away by that Sadie girl. And why was she so special? Getting to stay in an all guys dorm, I wonder if her parents knew the principal or something.
Either way, it was going to be my personal mission to make Sadie wish she had never come to this school in the first place.
