My head felt like a truck was continuously backing up and ramming, full speed, into it. The small amount of light that was shining through the dark curtains was enough to make my eyes water, forcing me to blink a hundred times before I could see clearly.
Charlie and Jace were sitting in the chairs next to the couch that I was laying on. The videogame they were playing turned down extremely low, I could barely hear it. Charlie glanced over and shook his head, smirking.
"How's your head?" I ignored his question and slowly sat up, two empty beer cans falling off my stomach and joined ten more empty, crushed cans on the floor. I hadn't realized how much I had drank.
"You get to go on the next beer run," Jace grumbled, obviously annoyed that I had finished off the last of our illegally bought beer. Chunk's older brother, Clark, would be willing to buy more for us if I paid him a little extra anyway.
I groaned and tried to stretch but stopped halfway as my head pounded even more. I sank my head into my hands and sat there for a few moments, trying to soothe my aching head.
"Here, dumbass," Charlie placed three Ibuprofen pills next to me and a bottle of cold water. I quickly gulped down the pills and finished the whole bottle of water within three seconds. I suddenly felt parched, my mouth was dry like I had been in the middle of the Sahara all night.
"What made you do this?" Charlie badgered some more, taking a seat next to me and forgetting about the game. Jace was still focused on the videogame but I could tell he was still listening.
"It's nothing, just some...family issues," I muttered, not wanting to explain everything in front of Jace. Telling Charlie might not even be a good idea, it'd be better to keep this information to myself.
Charlie eyed me suspiciously but thankfully he didn't push it. I grabbed my phone from the floor, it was almost dead, and realized it was almost noon.
"Damn, I missed morning classes again," I would definitely be getting a call later from my parents, not to mention coach was probably going to kick my ass at practice later too.
"Coach is going to have fun with you later," Jace teased, as if reading my mind. I grabbed the empty beer cans and threw them in the trash before rushing out of the room, not even saying bye to the guys.
Showering and changing into clean clothes I hurried across campus to my 5th period class. The Ibuprofen was starting to kick in but I knew practice was going to be hell today. As I was about to run into class I caught a glimpse of Sadie, rushing off to her own class. She was wearing black jeans and simple gray hoodie, but she looked good. I wonder if she was lost again. I didn't have time to wonder before my teacher was ushering me into class and asking me to close the door behind me.
Thanks to my drunk, stupid ass, almost the whole team was cut loose from practice early. Only Sid, Mark, Alec and I were left to endure coach's rage. Supposedly a 'little birdy' had leaked to coach that the four of us liked to drink and had been skipping classes. I was just thankful I wasn't the only one.
"After this," Sid panted from beside me and Alec, "we find the little bitch who ratted...and beat him...to a pulp,"
Alec and I nodded in agreement, although I was almost certain who it had been already.
"So you boys think it's cool to get drunk and skip out on classes, huh?" Coach's voice bellowed from the sidelines. We were all bent over, gasping for air at the field goal post on one end. "Again! You're going to be running until you're puking!"
We all took off sprinting with all we had left, which sadly wasn't much. The ibuprofen had warn off hours ago and my head was beginning to spin from the pain. Drinking was so not worth this shit.
The coach was right though, we all were puking by the time he let us stop our sprints. The four of us collapsed on the field at the feet of our ruthless coach.
"You boys," his voice was softer now, "have such a bright future. I'll be damned if you screw it up on my watch,"
He knelt down so he was closer to our faces, his emotion was hard but his voice was caring. He was a good guy deep down.
"Don't ever let me hear of you boys doing something like this again, get your butt's in class tomorrow," With his final words, coach stood and walked off the field. The four of us sat, panting and trying not to start puking again.
"I fuckin' hate this school," Mark stuttered, trying to stand up but quickly sitting back down when he got light headed.
"I wasn't even drinking last night, I slept through my damn alarms," Sid complained. Sid was probably the only one in our dorm who worked all the time. If he wasn't as the front desk in the dorm he was helping out in the library, and if he wasn't in the library he was serving coffee in the café.
After another ten minutes we all stood and staggered back to the dorm. It was only seven but I was ready for a long, hot shower and bed.
As I made my way down the hall, saying goodnight to Sid, Alec and Mark, Charlie was coming out of the bathroom with his sweats on, towel in hand.
"You look like shit," Charlie said, chuckling and fiddling with his own door's handle. I rolled my eyes and kicked open my own door, noticing Sadie wasn't in the room. Charlie must've read my mind, he peered into my room over my shoulder and sighed.
"She ran off with Chunk, the twins and Squid a few hours ago," Charlie mentioned without me asking. I didn't answer before kicking the door shut behind me. So what if Sadie was out bonding with a few of the guys? I grabbed my towel and a fresh change of clothes then headed towards the showers.
As I let the hot water pour over my aching muscles I continued to think about her. Why? It wasn't a big deal that she went out with the guys. They were probably going to be back any minute now. Curfew was coming up anyway and Sadie liked to follow the rules. At least I think she did.
Then again she had agreed to dorm with all guys just so she could go to school here. I wonder why she couldn't just wait until next year to come back and dorm with the girls instead.
I probably stood in the shower for thirty minutes under blistering hot water, trying to get myself to relax. Sadie and the guys didn't leave my mind once.
