I watched Freya's face change as my heart sunk. Say no I begged inside of my own head but she didn't say no. Instead she said "I need time to think" awkwardly looking at the ground.
"Great, I'm gonna go let me know when you've decided" max said leaving the room. There was an awkward silence as Freya kept here gaze rested on the ground below her and I kept my lips sealed waiting for her to say something. Anything would do. Eventually I realised I was going to have to be the one to break the silence.
"So...lucky you" I muttered with a nervous laugh.
"Huh?" She said looking up at me blinking quickly as if she'd just joined back into this reality.
"You know...max" I said my voice croaking.
"Oh, yeah" she shrugged. She stared into my eyes for a moment.
"We should probably finish this project" she said turning her head and sitting down. For the next hour she didn't seem herself, she was quiet as If she was overthinking. I knew what she was thinking about.
"Don't go with him" I blurted out.
"What?" She asked confused.
"Max I mean, don't go to the dance with him" I continued.
"Why not?" She asked. Is she serious?
"Why not?! Because he's an Idiot!" I replied raising my voice slightly as she giggled.
"Yeah he is" she agreed.
"So go with me?" I asked. Nervous of her response.
"But max asked me first" she said, at first I thought she was kidding but her face looked deadly serious.
"What?" I said sheepishly looking up at her.
"I'm kidding you idiot of course I'll go with you" she smiled.
"Really?!" I gasped in complete shock that this beautiful girl actually took me up on my offer.
"Why wouldn't I?" She scoffed.
"I- I don't know I thought you liked max" I said nervously rubbing the sleeve of my hoodie.
"Seriously?! He's a complete dick!" She said a little too loud.
"Language!" Her dad yelled from the bathroom.
"Sorry dad" she said her face tinting red."Why don't we ditch this project and go for a walk through the woods near my house?" She offered. I'd be stupid to say no.
"Sure" I smiled. And that was when I found myself blabbering on about random things that we'd forget tomorrow with who I believed was my soulmate. We walked together for a while just enjoying each others company, glad to be alone together.
That was when I felt her small soft fingers slowly intertwine with mine.
