"Why am I here Ron?" Draco sighed. Harry and Blaise were at work so it was the perfect opportunity to try and convince Draco he was wrong about the whole baby thing. Noah was sat on my knee being perfect as usual.
"You're an idiot." I said and Draco rolled his eyes.
"Is this about Harry because-"
"Hush." I said cutting him off.
"I am going to talk, you are going to listen." Draco said back in his seat and sighed.
"Okay."
"Great now." I put Noah on his lap. "Hold him for me would ya." Draco looked at Noah who cocked his head to the side studying Draco.
"What's he doing?" He said as Noah stared at him.
"He's looking at you." I said smiling.
"Why?"
"Because he's a baby Draco that's what they do." Draco narrowed his eyes eyes.
"Are you sure they're meant to be this intense?" He said and I nodded.
"Yeah, now listen." Draco moved his gaze to me.
"Look I get you don't don't want a kid." I said softly. "And I get why the idea of having one is crazy. There are so many things that you have to make sure you have, do, and get for them. We got lucky, we got one that rarely cries, never makes a fuss, and is happy most of the time." Draco looked down at Noah again.
"I get that you don't want to turn out like your father, I get that you don't know what you'll be like with your child. But if Harry had any of those doubts he would never have let this get serious with you, you would have completed the bond and it would have been done with. Harry wants to be with you, Harry wants to have kids with you, Harry wants to grow old with you. He has no doubts that you will be an amazing parent. And I'm sure you feel the same about him. You have all these thoughts about not being good enough for him but Draco you're perfect. You're Draco. And that's all that Harry wants. He wants you. And he wants to start a family with you." I stopped talking watching Draco look at Noah.
"When I was young." He said softly, "My father wasn't the heartless cruel man he is now. He used to do all the things normal parents do, give you piggy back rides in the park, teach you how to ride a bike. Until one day, that all stopped. He started getting more violent, more hateful, more viscous." Draco spat. "He started out as a young man who had made mistakes and turned into a man who kept making them. When I was ten he started to teach me all the rules about being a Malfoy, showed me our family tree and the importance of being a pure blood. Me, wanting to please him made the same mistake of believing that lie."
"Then I went to Hogwarts in September and it opened my eyes into a life without beatings, a life without my father, a life without so much hate. But if I let my guard down, if I let someone guide me astray then my father would hear about it. So I kept my role up, wore the mask that every Malfoy used, wore the mask that my father placed on me. Then fourth year came and Harry killed Voldemort. Something none of us thought possible, but my dad was taken to Azkaban and confessed to everything. Even the beatings he gave to me and my mother. But he said he was sorry. And all of me wants to go there, wants to visit him, wants to make it all right but I just can't. Because I'd just get reminded of the 14 years of hell I spent with him." Draco stopped.
"Blaise told you that I'd had a crush on Harry since first year. I'd had a crush on Harry since my dad told me the stories of 'the boy who lived' 'the chosen one'. Harry was everything I wanted to be and more, but I knew I could never do that, never be a hero, never not be a Malfoy. When my father went away I spiralled out of control, I'd always done the cutting but it got worse and worse. Blaise was the only one who knew, not Pansy, not Theo just Blaise. And he helped me stop. Helped me understand that there were people in my life that wanted me here, that wanted me alive. My mother, him, Pansy, Theo even my father."
"Then obviously we got a little too close one night and stuff happened but we both agreed we were better as friends. But that just created more problems and I started again, unbeknownst to Blaise of course. It was like before, small cuts not the big ones anymore. November 14th came and my life changed. I was in love, in love and together with the boy who I'd dreamed to be with since I was a little kid. Then Jake came around and messed everything up. And when I killed him." Draco's voice wobbled for the first time, "I realised that the anger I felt towards him was the same anger that my father used with every strike of the belt. The same anger that I loathed for years, the same anger that broke me. And I never wanted to feel that anger again." Draco finished taking a deep breath. I watched a tear roll down his pale cheeks which he wiped away quickly of course.
"I've never seen you cry before." I said softly. Draco let out a small laugh.
"Crying's for the weak." He said as if reading from a book, "Malfoy's don't cry." I let out another sigh.
"You don't not want to have children Draco." I said softly and Draco looked up at me, "You're just scared of becoming like him." Another tear rolled its way down his cheek but he didn't bother to wipe it away this time. He looked at Noah who was still studying him.
"Do you ever get scared he won't have magic?" He asked and I shook my head.
"I don't care if he's not magic, he's my son and I love him either way." Draco smiled.
"You've got a great dad kid." Noah smiled up at him. "Don't you ever forget it." Draco looked back at me.
"What do I tell Harry?" He asked,
"Everything you just told me." I said softly. "Here's the address of the lady at the adoption agency. Blaise was going to give it to Harry but I think you should take that first step, call and just meet with her. Ask all your questions and tell her all of your doubts. And then make a decision. She's a wonderful woman." I passed him the piece of paper with all of Amanda's details. He nodded.
"And if you want." I added, "Keep it as a surprise for Harry. I'm sure he'd appreciate it."
