Chapter 45

I slowly woke up again in a hospital, next to me Ruby was holding my hand and sobbing quietly.
Mason was outside talking to the doctors.
When Ruby realized I was waking up, she only cried more.

,,Hey, shhh, it's okay," I said to Ruby and reached my arms out to her.

,,I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for anything to happen to you," she said in a shaky voice, crying in my arms.

I stroked her head and tried to comfort her.
It was not her fault, she must realize that!
She had band-aids all over her face and her lip was busted open.
What a fucking wanker, how could Erik do that to her?

,,It's okay, it's not your fault Ruby" I tried to explain to her.

Mason came in when he saw I was awake.

,,Britney, are you okay? How's your head? I'm going to kill that fucker, I swear to you!" he said and took my hand.

I wanted him so much to be near me, but I knew Ruby needed me now, so I did the only right thing.

Mason, I'm fine, don't worry about me.

,,Can you wait outside until I, well until I talk to Ruby?" I asked.

He came over and gave me a kiss and then went out the door and continued talking to the police and the doctor.

,,Ruby hey, look at me. It wasn't your fault. Are you ok?" i asked worried.

She didn't stop sobbing.

,,Yeah, I was just so scared," she said.

I hugged her tightly and when she broke away and sat down on the chair next to my bed, I saw her injuries.
She looked scared and hurt.

,,What happened?" I asked.

Well, I was going to a friend's house and when I opened the door, I saw Erik.
He pushed me back in and I couldn't defend myself, he hit me and tried to rape me and said things like "I've got you now" or "you're going to pay for the last few years", and after a few minutes you came in" she explained, shaking.

I held her hands tightly because it tore me up inside to see her like that.

,,Oh Ruby, I'm so sorry, luckily I came in and called the police, and he's going to pay bitterly for this now" I said.

,,Yes, they put him in jail and in a few days they will decide what to do with him" she explained, wiping away her tears.

,,I'm glad that nothing else happened to you," I said and smiled encouragingly at her.

,,I would never have forgiven myself if something had happened to you, Britney," she said, tears welling up in her eyes again.

,,Come here," I said and spread my arms.

She climbed into bed with me and hugged me so tightly that I couldn't breathe.

,,Shit, because of all this I completely forgot about your mother," she said and broke away from my embrace.

Oh yeah, I was going to tell you today when I went to see you, but Erik had other plans" I said and we both laughed lightly.

,,Mason told me everything. I'm so sorry about what happened to you" she said.

,,It's funny that it's happened twice now, I think I've upset the universe, otherwise I wouldn't keep getting such blows of fate" I said.

,,No, don't say that Britney, you are a good person, you are just going through a hard time" she said.

,,But the only thing I don't understand is why my parents created me when they both committed suicide afterwards anyway" I explained.

,,We humans are stupid and make mistakes, the important thing is to learn from them" she said.

,,Britney, can you stay at my place tonight? I don't want to be alone after this" she asked.

,,I don't know if Mason would like that, we live together now" I explained.

Her mouth fell open and a grin spread across her face.

,,Oh my god, you guys are living together? And I didn't know that?" she said.

,,Well, only for a week, but I love him.
I really love him" I explained.

,,I've never seen Mason with a girlfriend, but I'm happy for you both!" she said and smiled.

,,Thank you Ruby"

Why couldn't Carla react the same way she did?
Ruby and I hated each other, but she's been more of a friend to me so far than Carla ever was.

,,You can spend the night with us," I suggested.

,,And listen to you and Mason have sex? No thanks," she said and laughed.

,,Well, we haven't had any....so not yet" I said and blushed.

,,Wait a minute what? What the hell have you done to Mason? He usually fucks everything that has legs" she said and we both laughed out loud.

,,Well, he's different around me," I said.

,,You're such a good influence on him," she said.

,,But no, seriously, spend the night with us," I said.

,,I don't know," she said.

,,No way!" I heard Mason say as he came in the door.

,,Okay, you know what, I've made up my mind, I'm going to spend the night with you guys," Ruby said with a nasty grin.

,,No" said Mason.

,,Yes, please Mason" I begged and made a pout.

,,Shit, alright, but only because I love you" Mason said and then walked out the door.

,,Was that really Mason or a puffy twin brother?" she said and laughed.

,,Well I have to get used to nice Mason too" I said and laughed out loud.

It was really nice to laugh again.
And with a friend who used to be my enemy.
They don't say for nothing that the best friendships come from enemies.
