Dixie sat there for hours waiting for Noah to come back. She hadn't even eaten, she was starving. She wondered if he would even come back, it wouldn't be a surprise if he didn't.
She sat there playing with her rings until she finally heard a car pull into the drive-way. She looked up hoping it was him and sure enough it was. He was on his phone oblivious to his surroundings.
He looked like he was in a good mood. Dixie on the other hand was fuming as she stood up. The old lady walked over to Noah handing him a glass of water with a smile on her face. Two-faced bitch, Dixie thought to herself, giving the lady a dirty look before focusing her attention to Noah.
''You think it was nice to just leave me here without telling your workers who the fuck I am!'', she said as she walked closer to him.
''Oh sorry I forgot to tell them, I was late for college'', he said nonchalantly.
''YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE AND YOU FIND COLLEGE MORE IMPORTANT? YOU DIDN'T EVEN GIVE ME YOUR NUMBER!'', she yelled on the verge of tears.
He stood there wondering what got her so fired up.
''I haven't eaten or drank in days! I'm going to faint!'', she stated.
''I'm sorry I forgot'', he apologised once again.
''You know what, forget about me too and leave me alone to die. I don't want your help.'', and with that she ran upstairs ready for her 5th breakdown today.
She remembered when 14 year old Dixie was in her room looking at photos of her and her parents. She looked at all the good memories they had and tried not to think of all her pain.
Charli was only 11 and didn't exactly know why her sister was always in her room looking at pictures. Yes, she did know that her parents where gone but she didn't feel grief. She was 6 when her parents passed away, she didn't even remember how they looked or how they sounded. To her, her grandparents were her parents, she even called them mom and dad.
Instead of being thankful for her grandparents' love and care she had resentment towards them. She felt as if she had been betrayed by them. She tried not to show it but she didn't show them that she loved them either. She never hugged them or even asked them to do anything for her.
Whenever it was her birthday she never wanted a cake, she asked for a cupcake and went into her room. There she celebrated her own birthday with the photo of her parents. The photo of the amazing people that where no longer here to give her their hugs and kisses or to show her they loved her.
Her grandparents never really followed up with the investigators to try and find the killer, they didn't really care. This only made Dixie more confused. Why didn't they care?
Her mom's parents had died long before she was born so they weren't here to bring justice for their daughter. Dixie was always hopeful. She vowed that she would bring justice for at least her mom because her mom didn't have anyone to fight for her.
Dixie had everything, until she had nothing. She had the perfect family and the perfect life. Her grades in school where amazing, although she was only in Grade 4 back then. She was really socially active and everyone loved her. Who knows how successful she would have become if her parents where still here.
Fast forward to now, she was a depressed and mentally unstable 19 year old. What a great way of maturing!
She could think of all the positive aspects of this, although there weren't many. She had learnt a lot from what had happened. She should appreciate this in some weird way, but instead she wanted to forget. She wanted to get brainwashed. She would risk anything to just not remember. Sometimes she thought it would be better to be an orphan since birth.
She would never admit it but during those few hours that she had to sit on that couch her thoughts wandered into places she never wanted them to wander to again. She thought about becoming friends with Noah, maybe he was a nice guy? Ok, that was too much. She could never become friends with the person who kidnapped her. Right?
Dixie expected to be crying right now but she wasn't. She was just in the corner of the room with her legs to her chest thinking about all of that. She had almost come to terms with what Noah had done. Maybe he did want to protect her. As much as she wanted to hate him she needed to give him a chance. Or did she?
Those where two things she planned on figuring out tonight. Did she want to be friends with Noah and did he deserve a chance. Her mind had cleared up and she had come to terms with what Noah did but her heart still held a grudge towards him which it had every right to.
Part of Dixie felt like she was letting her parents down. She felt like she was betraying them by being with Noah. She knew she could never be 'friends' with him but maybe they could be more than enemies?
By the time she snapped back into reality it was already 9 p.m. She had been lost in her thoughts for more than 2 hours! Lazily, she got up and started getting ready for bed. She felt... happy. No, maybe that wasn't the right word, she felt not sad. Her thoughts had cleared up and she started focusing on other things.
She was laying in bed, peacefully on her phone until she heard a knock on the door. She mentally sighed and put her phone down. She really didn't want to ruin her mood. Not after she finally felt okay.
''Come in'', she groaned trying to hide the annoyance in her voice but failing.
In came the last person she wanted to see, Noah. She wanted to clear things up with him but now right now! She wanted to do it in the morning after she got over this exhausting day but instead the universe thought that now was the perfect time. Thanks Universe!
''Hey'', he said.
''Hi, what's wrong?'', she blurted out.
''Nothing, I just wanted to apologize for earlier. Also why were you sitting on that couch? Who told you I was coming at that time?'', was he stupid? how did he not know his own house. Sorry, mansion. Was he really that naive?
''Safety protocol'', she said doing finger quotes with her hands.
''What safety protocol?''
Huh?!
