Chapter two
My head was throbbing as if bricks were slamming against my skull. A hangover from last night's excessive drinking made it difficult to think straight. But honestly, could anyone blame me? It was all just too much to handle, and I didn't know how to cope. However, some happy memories from the previous night flickered back, making me inwardly smile.
Sickness devoured me as I felt my stomach growl indicating for me to get some food before I did end up throwing up bile. Yet I scrunched my nose up at the thought of even eating breakfast. That was the last thing on my mind so I ignored my body's plead to eat some food and groggily stretched my arms out, ruffling a hand through my messy hair.
My mind wandered as I pushed myself off the bed, only to realize that I didn't recognize the furniture or the surroundings of the room. Panic set in, and I felt immensely anxious.
Could this be Henry's home? It was the only plausible explanation. I gulped back saliva to ease my dry throat, assuming that he must have brought me here. But as I looked down at myself, I quickly noticed that I was no longer wearing my wedding dress, and my hair was messily draped across my shoulders, indicating that someone had undressed me and taken out my hair plaits.
The thought of Henry possibly seeing my underwear made me feel flushed. Even though I had made some scandalous comments towards him yesterday, there was far too much alcohol consumed for me to take any of it too seriously. So ultimately, my sexual innuendos were meaningless.
I miserably reached for a mirror on the bedside cabinet, staring at my reflection with disappointment. I looked like a complete mess, far from the polished woman I presented myself as yesterday. Henry must have been embarrassed to be married to me. Unless he slept in a different bed, which I secretly hoped for, given the current circumstances.
My hair was matted and tangled, sticking up in multiple places, making me wince. It was going to be a hellish task to remove the horrendous lumps of hair, but I made it my mission to at least look presentable when I saw Henry. However, I did wonder if he was even here at the moment as he was a very busy man. I doubted he would have waited for me to wake up since I wasn't exactly an early bird.
The bedroom had a bathroom attached, as expected given the large amount of money that Henry possessed. I sluggishly walked towards the bathroom and undressed myself, feeling the sudden coldness run through my naked body, creating goosebumps.
I began to slide my foot forward, submerging it underneath the beads of warm water that I had adjusted to the perfect temperature suitable for me. Then, I placed my whole body inside, becoming engulfed with steam and the powerful water jets that crashed upon my skin.
As my eyes scanned my surroundings, they landed on a towel sitting on a heated towel rack in front of me. Luckily, I grabbed it with grace after I finished washing my body, feeling calm from the water's soothing effects.
Henry must have anticipated that I would want to take a shower, and he possibly left the towel for me. Unless, of course, it was already there. Regardless, he was a gentleman, and I was a lucky woman. The thought of him caring about me caused my whole body to relax, which was the reassurance I needed since I was currently residing in his home, or at least I believed it was his home.
I grabbed a hairbrush and began running it through my wet, dark locks, creating small waves that formed from how I braided my hair yesterday - this wasn't the norm for me. My hair was naturally straight, but I surprisingly liked the appearance of it. It was something new.
