If I had known that he would be the best thing that could ever happen to me, I would have done it all over again. Now he's the worst thing that every happened to me. But I would still have done it all over again. He saved me, but tore me into a million pieces at the same time.

Y/n pov:

When I came home into our apartment I saw my little sister sitting on the floor when she hands over the newspaper. "Look at that y/n, dad is at the front page again! He got the trashcan killer!" She sounded so excited. To be honest, I wasn't that interested in anything that happened in this city anymore. "Wow, that's so cool barbara!" I said sarcastically. "You know why don't you invite some friends over here?" "What friends." She made a good point. This city is dangerous, and our dad, Jim, is overprotective of us. Except for that he lets me go outside because I am old enough, I wouldn't survive if I were my sister if I am totally honest.

"I want to be just like you, that I can go wherever I want, and I want to be a cop just like dad." "Good, then you ask him if he wants to teach you sometime." "But when? Mom and dad are always busy! You know how to fight. Why don't you teach me?" "Because it's not exactly fighting, it's just a part of knowing how to defend yourself, I have also a job to do you know."

Right. That was a lie.

I just stopped with school, I was searching for the right internship. Not knowing what way I wanted to go.

I saunter up and down and rub my face. then I walk to the kitchen, when I look behind me I see Barbara walking behind me like a dog. like I have kibble in my hands or something. "oh boy you need some attention don't you?" Barbara rubs her hands and is clearly looking forward to it. Okay then. "I'm going to take it seriously."

I ran upstairs hearing Barbara following me. I walked near my room, which is the biggest room from our apartment. A bed in the right corner, with a desk and a large wardrobe across it. And in the middle is a large carpet with a small sofa on it, so you can watch TV.

"You can be cool you know if you just say yes to daddy's proposal."
"I am definitely not going to have my internship at the GCPD. And now leave my room please." Surprisingly enough she did what I said, even though she left the newspaper on the floor of my room.
"Barbara! You forgot you- never mind!" I looked down at the newspaper in my hands and my eyes went immediately to an advertent. "Haly's circus has reopened, new employees needed!"

Okay. I'll keep that in mind.

In the afternoon I went downstairs seeing my little sister on the couch with a slice of bread. "Aren't mom and dad home yet?" Just at the moment, I thought she wouldn't respond she turned around. "You promised me you would cook dinner for us today." She seemed to take it very personally. "I'm sorry sis, but I forgot it." "Just like mom and dad forgot us?" She sounded a little angry.

"I will never be like them, I am here right? With you." I came sitting next to her and wrapped my arms around her. There was a short moment of painful silence. I had to agree with her.

In my opinion, my sister deserves better. I mean, she's just 10 and I am supposed to take care of her?

"They aren't coming home till midnight again, are they?" "I don't think so." I stand up and went to the countertop to warm up some leftover pizza slices from yesterday. "Look I got your favorite!"

Just when we finished eating our improvised dinner the door opened and mom and dad came walking in. Both me and my sister acted like they were ghosts, just as I taught her how to do. "We missed dinner again I see." My mom didn't take it as seriously as dad did. "I am so so sorry y/n and Barbara, you see, it's very busy at my work and-" Before he finished his sentence he noticed none of us were listening to him. He looked into my eyes and tried to apologize for the best.

"Yeah, sure dad." Sure. I don't care anymore. "Y/n you could start tomorrow for your internship at the GCPD." My father puts his bag on the ground and hangs his jacket on the coat rack. "I don't want to go there." Mom notices how annoyed I am, yet she pretends not to see it. Going against my father is pointless. She winks at me. I don't like to discuss things with my parents, preferably not with Dad. Mom's okay, she's trying to come across as a kind of friend to me. I fastly finished my dishes and went upstairs.

I sit on the tiny sofa in my room. Again I took the article in my hands and read it another time. It just seems so cool, to get maybe even famous just like the Graysons!

~

The next day I woke up with the same thing on my head. I don't want to have my internship at the GCPD! After I'd changed and brushed my teeth I went to my parents' room but right before I came in I heard that they were in a fight, and not a small one too if you ask me.

"Y/n is old enough to make her own decisions!" Mum screamed. "Maybe she just needs to see how it is at my work?" My father and mother weren't the perfect couple. And I'm scared that they break up.

I agree with mom at this one though. It didn't seem to be the right time to ask mom about the work at the circus, so I just decided to go see it myself. As she said, I am old enough to make my own decisions, right?

I took a quick sandwich to go but before I got the chance to get out of the kitchen mom was behind me. "You look good in that skirt girl!" Surprisingly she didn't sound sad anymore, about the fight.  "Thanks, mom, I was on my way to meet Anne and Derek in the park." She stared for a short while at me. "I know that you're lying. Tell me, is it a hot boy?" I am lying, indeed. But not because of a boy, she knows I hate to talk about that stuff.

"Mom no you know I am not busy with that... I have to tell you something though." I showed her the Gotham's gazette. "Oh tell me honey what's wrong?" I know that I can't get all her support for my idea, but at least I could try. "I don't want to work by my dad cause I don't feel like saving everyone's ass all the time. I don't want to be a hero just like him"

"Okay... I get that." "I saw in this news article that the circus has reopened?" I point at the article. "Oh god y/n, you want to work at Haly's circus?" She sounds concerned, but why actually?  "It looks so fun! Imagine me swinging with the graysons, you know I like to be athletic!" Knowing myself I am not fast happy but when I hear the idea it cheers me up already.

"And besides, I've done 5 years of dancing when I was younger." Not like that had anything to do with this, but so fast I couldn't come up with a better argument. "Alright, if that's what you really want you should go for it." I could jump out of joy but I held myself. Didn't expect to get away with it that easily.
