5: The GCPD

What I did for Jerome yesterday was something I wouldn't just do for someone, but he is special. I sip my tea and think about it another time. I couldn't just tell to someone what happened, I could lose my job or maybe even worse. Though that's not my biggest worry, I just want Jerome to be safe. Love feels so weird, it's like you want to protect them. I opened my phone and swiped through some pictures me and Jerome took together. He's so adorable. Right at that moment, I got a message from him.

Jerome: Hi doll! Everything is under control here ;)

I totally forgot to text him.

Y/n: That's great to hear. What are you doing right now?
Jerome: Nothing really. Would you like to come over darling?

I promised my dad that I would help him with some stuff at work, though I am definitely not gonna work there.

Y/n: Can't. Need to do some stuff. Just wanted to make sure you were alright!

Put my phone away and dressed in my nicest outfit. Jim knocked at my door. "Come in dad!" He came inside and smiled at me. "You look good in that! Maybe you should wear it more often." The only one laughing at his joke was himself. "I'm just focusing on my current job dad." "That's right. How is it at the circus?" I knew he wasn't interested, otherwise he would've asked me earlier. "It's fine, it's good."

Once arrived I saw Harvey and Lucius standing behind his desk. "Hey-di-hoo Jim!" "Also a good morning to you Harvey." "Good morning partner. You brought y/n with you! That's great. Is she here for her internship?" I answered before my dad could even open his mouth. "No, I have a 5-days a week internship at the circus!" My dad sat down at his office. "She is just here to help me with some tasks, she can go home before the evening comes."

"You can sit here y/n, you write on every single of those papers what your opinion is about the GCPD." "Just like that? I'm not coming with you and do something that's not worthless?" Dad sighs. "C'mon Jim! She's old enough to make her own decisions. Let her go with us!" He says while eating his sandwich. "You wanted me to come with you. Now I want to do something useful." Jim reluctantly lets me come.

Harvey gave me a high-five.

I followed my dad to the police car and stepped in the backseat. "Where are we going?" "To the abandoned Asylum. They are currently rebuilding it but there was a breakout of one prisoner."

"Sounds interesting." I may just want some action again. Nothing more.

"Hey, Jim since when is your daughter so interested in the work you do?" My father looked at me and then at Harvey. "I have no idea." I kept my mouth shut. I'm not interested at all Harvey, It's called curious. And I didn't have much of a choice too. Could've said that straight to his face but they knew me as the nice girl I sorta am, so I'll just keep it in my head.

Arrived at Arkham Asylum my dad opened the door and we were inside. "The call was from 20 minutes ago, do you think he is still in here?" Harvey got me thinking about that. Why were we searching in here if we could better search out there? "The fences from the asylum are impossible to climb over or to breakthrough. I think the prisoner is still hiding in here." Dad seemed confident about his thoughts and it got Harvey looking at me again. "I don't understand how you can live with this guy." I laughed a bit, though I didn't find it funny at all. Never will understand old people their humor. I can't wait to see Jerome again, I love his dark humor.

Suddenly the lights went off and I had no idea what to do. The daylight is not very bright and I could hardly see my father and Harvey holding their finger for their mouths. I had to keep my mouth shut now. Harvey pointed his gun out into the shadows of the hallway and to be honest, this was very scary.

I've got a gun from my dad earlier. He wanted to make sure I could protect myself, and for every household, it's important to be able to defend yourself in this city. We do it in our way.

Jim pov:

a few moments later the lights suddenly went on again and I could see in my partner his eyes that again the trust in his eyes was slightly different. I know that if this is gonna end bad, it would be my fault. But I am sure about this. "Harv, where's y/n?" "That's not- I- I have no idea was I supposed to look after her? She's a smart girl I didn't think she would lose us that easily." My heart starts beating faster as I hear y/n scream. "Y/n! WHERE ARE YOU?" I ran down the hallway and Harvey went into the other room next to this one.

"Oh, hey dad." She looked at me with no fear in her eyes. Our wanted prisoner laying right at the end of her toes. "He's not dead, don't worry." "You're... great! Harvey, she's here!" Y/n smiles at me. She knows I'm proud of her. "Why did you scream though. Are you hurt?" "No dad, I'm fine. Don't worry about me. Let's bring him to the station, shall we? It's very clear to me that this place wasn't ready for use yet."

Finally, we got home and I was relieved my missions were solved for today. No calls yet from the GCPD, and everything seems under control. The other prisoners got safely evacuated from Arkham Asylum to a better prison. There's gotta be a lot of work to do at the Asylum. It sucks totally. The security is very bad and it's old.

I lean backward on my chair and saw my Barbara walking towards me. "Hey there!" She comes sitting at the chair next to me and gives me a beer. "Did this sexy hero do a good deed today?" I laugh at the way Barbara is saying it and I start explaining what happened today. "Wow. Our daughter has the same instinct as you have really, doesn't she." "It's in her blood. I really hope I can get her so far to work with me, it would be so fun and she's from nature already good at this job." Barbara stands up from her chair placing our glasses in the dishwasher. "Y/n chose for something she likes. Maybe she'll ever turn by. Who knows? But let her do what she wants right now." I sigh deeply. "And she seems to have a lot of fun there."

Barbara was right. I really should try to concentrate more on important stuff than forcing my child to work by me. Maybe she doesn't like it as much as I used to do at her age.
