7: Living with a Secret

Today went well so far, until I came downstairs with my mom looking strict at me. "Uhm, hey?" I said innocently while picking some milk out of the fridge to fill my cereals with. "Where were you last night?" "Why? I mean I was just here but why, did something happen?" She clears her throat. "You weren't here." "I was, actually." She stood up and wrapped her arms over each other. "Are you lying to me Y/n? I did a check on you last night and you weren't in your bed." Okay. Don't fuck it up now. "Yeah, I went to take out my trash." "You? Take out the trash in the middle of the night?"

"Two days ago we ate Chinese food remember? It was smelling like the death inside of my trashcan. I had to take it out otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep, mom." Her face changed, and I knew for a 99.9% sure she would believe me. "Okay then." Our conversation got interrupted by my sister, that had to show me a flyer of the circus. For once I didn't mind it, she kinda saved me with this one though. Well, it seemed all fun and stuff till I saw what the flyer was about. "Haly's circus! The only circus in Gotham with the best acrobats, snake dancers, clowns, and much more!"

"OMG Y/n! I can't believe you have such a cool job." "Finally someone who sees the good side of it, haha." Barbara hands me over the flyer to let me read it better. "What's with this sis?" Her puppy eyes showed up once more. "Could I come with you someday?" I look at our mother and back at Barbara. "Sure, you could come with me tomorrow after your school. I'll text my boss that I will come a bit later tomorrow." I got a wink from mom. Had to fake my smile, cause to be honest I was freaking out from the inside. This was definitely not the right time to bring my little sister over there.

I went upstairs and found myself some distraction, which was texting Anne to stay over, I really needed some dry humor from her.

Not an hour later I heard knocking on my bedroom door, and Anne stepped inside. "Hey, bitch! Did you see this?" "Hey Anne, I'm so glad you came." "Of course Y/n! But now watch this video." She showed me a video of Derek being drunk at some party, it didn't matter to me at all. But I suppose everything is better than talking about my work. "What's the long face? Don't tell me you're upset about the whole Derek thing." She said. "My cousin is an asshole, we gotta accept that. And by the way, don't ever let him do anything to you. Get yourself a hot guy."

I have.

"Obviously." I rolled my eyes. Anne has always been there for me when I was at my worst. The other way too. She has blonde short hair, freckles all over her face, and big, blue eyes. "You're right I shouldn't care about him, he's a waste of time." My nerves were fading away by the more shit she said, I knew she would help me. She always does.

That evening after she was gone, I wrote a few pages full of my feelings again in my diary. And how I felt about killing Lila. I don't want to say it felt good, but that bad not either. I had to cook for me and my little sister again since our parents still weren't home yet. Only now have I managed to actually make something. "You better like this." I slide the plate of pasta her way. "What are you going to do next year when you get 18? Will you be moving like the first day you are?" "Ah, we'll see about that."

"Do you like your job, or are u staying there cause of another reason?" "What other reason could there be Barbara?" I asked. "Hmm, I don't know. Maybe a hot boy..." There grew a smile on my face and I couldn't control it. "OMG! You're in love and you don't even tell me? Is he hot? Is he handsome? How old is he?" "I'll tell you if you swear on your life that you won't tell mom and dad about it. Especially not dad."

Mah, she was gonna meet Jerome tomorrow anyway. I just didn't mention his "dark" side. Or anything that has to do with our thingy. After we ate our dinner I was making my way out of the kitchen. "Y/n, wait." I glanced over my shoulder. "You should learn me some of that cool fight stuff soon some time, I know that you're busy. You see-" "Sure Barbara, I will. But I can't handle everything at one time." She looks glassy at me because it has been a long time since I paid attention to her.

I went upstairs and texted Jerome.

Y/n: Wanna hang out?

I left my phone on my bed and got dressed up nicer, cause meeting Jerome in my pyjama would be a bad idea. My phone went off.

Jerome: Of course! Come whenever ur ready.
Y/n: Love you!

When cycling towards the Circus area I was thinking about how badly I want to have my driver's license, only my dad doesn't agree to it. He always tells me it's better if I am gonna drive my own car whenever I will be older. I could've had it last year! Imagine me and Jerome in a luxe car...

I got so lost in my thoughts that I wasn't looking clear at the road and a car drove past me when I quickly realized it hit me; from the side of my arm, I started bleeding, and not a little bit. Going back home would be worthless, I was almost at Jerome's.

Opening his trailer door, (not seeing the point of knocking) he was very excited to see me. "Hey, darling! I missed ya." I noticed right away he was eating a slice of bread, which probably was supposed to be his dinner. Or whatever you call that. A slight hug from me was all I could give him. "You're bleeding." My arm was now not my skin color anymore, it turned blue and red.

"It's okay, it looks worse than it feels." I turned on his tap and held my arm under it, to clean it the most it's possible. I could see him search under his mother's bed for probably something to put it on. "How are you, Jerome? Can you hold it out here any longer?" He found what he was looking for and walked towards me. "Don't worry about me, doll. Is it hard for you?" Whenever I was with Jerome my heartbeat started beating faster, but at the same time he always finds a way how to calm me down.

He is my first boyfriend, my first REAL boyfriend. In like sixth grade I got my first kiss, but I don't know if you can call that a kiss. Back then you kissed everyone you got the chance on. That was not real love. Now that's different. Real love is when you would die for someone or can't live without them. This explains my feelings for Jerome, whether he's good or bad, I don't care. I love him and I will always be on his side.

He pointed at a random star in the sky. "That one I call Y/n." I smiled. "Then that one next to her will be Jerome, then we will always stick together." He laughed. It takes me a while sometimes, to make him smile. Can't blame him for that though. I cuddle up to him a little more and kiss him. "Did you know that you're the sexiest girl I've ever seen Y/n?" "Well I know I'm sexy, but it always feels good to hear it again." He looks at me and grabs me onto him. There we lay down, literally on top of his trailer, looking at the moon. I have no worries cause my parents won't be home tonight. This is all I need.
