Chapter 30!

Elizabeth followed after her friends down the corridor, she had lost sight of Nonie but she soon saw Backup not far ahead of her on the staircase. She jumped over the second staircase's banister and soon caught up with her friend, she grabbed hold of his arm and stopped him from going any further. Backup didn't even fight her off, he looked over his shoulder at her and stared at her with his crimson eyes. There was blood on his hands and underneath his finger nails, he was covered in it. Elizabeth let go of his arm and looked down at her own hand, she had blood on her hand too. Their gaze met once again, she wanted to know what was going on.

" What's going on?" Elizabeth asked, she showed him her hand. " Who's blood is this?!"

" You need to come with me, it's important..." He replied.

" Tell me what's going on first, why is everyone up at this ungodly hour?"! Elizabeth asked. " Please, what's going on?! Why is Nonie so upset? I need to know why you have blood on your clothes, what have you done?!"

" I've done nothing wrong, it's not me who's sinned this day..." He replied before he put his finger tip to his lips. " It's amusing how you blame me the minute something tragic happens in the orphanage, I'm not the conductor in my Alternatives little deadly mishap."

" Deadly mishap?!" Elizabeth asked, she grabbed hold of Backup's arms and frowned at him. " What do you mean by deadly mishap?! What's happened to Aiden?! Please tell me now!"

" So you were both on first name bases? How interesting..." He replied with a smirk. " I hate being the barer of bad news, but our Alternative is no more. He's not of this earthly realm, he ceases to exist.. he's dead."

" You're lying!" Elizabeth frowned.

" If I was lying then why is Nonie crying?" He asked." Didn't I tell you that someone we both knew was going to be leaving us very soon. I for one would never joke about my Alternative's demise..."

A sob escaped Elizabeth's lips, surely Backup was lying to her about her secret boyfriend's death. A couldn't be dead, she had seen him before she had gone to bed. Her heart sank when Backup asked her if she wanted to see his body, she pushed him out of her way and hurried down the rest of the stairs. She barged through the ground floor doors and hurried along the corridor, there were a couple of students hanging outside the library. She kept on going until she reached some stairs, she was breathing heavy.

A and Backup's room wasn't far now, she took a couple of deep breaths before she hurried up the staircase. She soon reached the East Wing of the orphanage, she hurried through some double doors before she stopped dead in the corridor. She saw some yellow tape stealing off part of the corridor where a group of students were standing. Her eyes grew wide when saw a body bag being wheeled out from a room on a stretcher, she covered up her mouth with her hands while she fell onto her knees.

" Aiden..." Elizabeth muttered.

Elizabeth felt something soft being draped around her shoulders, she looked up and saw Backup standing next to her. He crouched next to her and place his hand on her shoulder, the expression on his face was sympathetic.

" Do you believe me now?" He asked, his speaking tone was comforting. " I'm also grieving for my Alternative's death, his demise hurts me too. I knew his life was coming to an end. I never a said a single word when I saw his lifespan counting down to his last hour, I acted normal and went to sleep while he listened to his music on his CD player."

" How did it happen?" Elizabeth asked.

" He committed suicide, his depression got the better of him..." He replied in a softer tone. " I found him on the bathroom floor when I woke in the night to use the bathroom. His blood was his death bed. His wrists were cut in the most perfect vertically lines, there was no hope of surviving vertical wrist wounds because they're physically impossible to sew up. But he looked peaceful, all those years of stress gone in moments. How I envied him, his sorrow as ended and ours as just begun..."
