October

Elizabeth glanced at the calendar on the wall, it was the 10th of October. It will be A's fifteenth birthday in three days time, she had no idea what to get him. She had though about making him a toffee cheesecake like she did last year, it seemed like the easy option since he enjoyed it. She fixed her wonky collar on her dress before she got up from her chair at the dressing table, she then left her room with her school bag hung over her shoulder. She soon spotted A waiting for her in the corridor, he beckoned her to follow him while he tucked his hands into his hoody pockets. Elizabeth quickened her walking pace to catch up with him. But he soon stopped at the end of the corridor and leaned back against the wall, she soon greeted her boyfriend.

" Morning!" Elizabeth smiled.

" Morning, how are you today?" A asked

" I'm good, I've missed you." Elizabeth replied.

" You saw me about nine hours ago, but I can understand how you could miss me because I'm so intelligent and cool." A said with a smile. " So I get why you'd miss me, I'm just too awesome to be forgotten."

" So vain, I've never called you cool." Elizabeth laughed, she leaned her shoulder against the wall. " You're so full off yourself sometimes!"

" It was worth a shot to see if I could get a compliment out of you." A chuckled.

" Still vain." Elizabeth smiled.

" I know." A said.

" How are you feeling today anyway?" Elizabeth asked. " Hopefully better than yesterday, I know Mr Ruvie has been giving you a hard time again about your studies."

" I'm alright, I'm use to Mr Ruvie being a jerk. He just thinks I need to concentrate more. Apparently my attention span has been slipping in lessons which is affecting my studies." A replied, he crossed his arms. " It's basically a normal human characteristic. Who really concentrates on a task without being distracted for a few seconds anyway?"

" Do you think I'm the one distracting you?" Elizabeth asked before she playfully flicked some of her hair over her shoulder. " Maybe I should stay away from you for awhile so you can concentrate on your studies."

" Don't be daft!" A replied with a smile. " You're my good distraction."

" I guess that's good to know." Elizabeth said.

" Come on, let me walk you to class." A said.

" Okay." Elizabeth said.

A stopped Elizabeth before they even had a chance to walk down the corridor, he took his beeper from his pocket and read the number on it. His eyes grew wide and a serious expression crept across his face, he soon looked at his girlfriend. Elizabeth raised one of her eyebrows at him, something didn't seem right.

" Is there something wrong?" Elizabeth asked.

" I'm sorry, I need to go..." A replied, there was panic in his voice. " I'll come and find you later, I've been called to Watari's office."

" Okay, I'll see you later." Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth watched A hurrying down the corridor, she had no idea what was going on but it seemed serious. She sighed to herself and walked down the corridor, she then her made way down the ground floor of the building. She continued walking along the corridor, she saw a few students leaving the science lab in tears. She stopped in the doorway and looked into the room, there wasn't many students seated in the classroom. She looked back along the corridor, she saw some teachers rushing up the main staircase of the orphanage. She walked into the classroom and took her normal seat. She placed her bag on the table and looked at the clock on the wall, it was 9:15am.
