Chapter 9!
It had been five days since Elizabeth had seen the emergency newsflash on the television about the body being found in Martyr Worthy. The murder report was still all over the news and on the front page of the Winchester's local newspaper, it was all people spoke about in the town. She had taken a peek at one of the newspapers when Rose wasn't looking, the victims were both under the age of sixteen and female. Their names hadn't been given out yet, but the newspaper's articles described the murder scenes has gruesome.
Elizabeth had managed to get in touched with A, he told her that he was fine. He explained to her that it was his mentor who had been rude to her over the telephone, he didn't tell her his mentor's name though. Mr Wammy had visited the cottage, he had gotten someone to install security lights in the front and back garden of the cottage. There was now a panic button in Rose's bedroom and new bolts on the doors, her Aunt Thora had arranged everything since she learnt about the murders. She had decided to stay at the health retreat for awhile longer, she didn't want to return home yet after all of the horrible events that were happening in Winchester right now.
Elizabeth closed her book and glanced over at the wall clock above the fireplace, it was only 8:27pm. She hadn't been allowed to go outside much because Rose wouldn't let her out of her sight, the whole town of Winchester was under curfew. She got up from the sofa and placed her book on the coffee table, she was tired.
" Rose, I'm going to get ready for bed!" Elizabeth yelled.
" Okay!" Rose yelled from the kitchen. " I'll check on you before I turn in for the night!"
" Okay!" Elizabeth said.
Elizabeth left the lounge and hurried upstairs to her bedroom, she then prepared herself for bed. Rose soon visited the young girl's room, she placed a glass of water on the bedside cabinet and locked the bedroom's window. Elizabeth's bedroom was on the first floor, but Rose made sure the whole cottage was locked up before she retired for night.
" Sweet dreams." Rose said before she kissed the top of the young girl's head. " I'll knock three times on your bedroom door when it's morning, then we're have omelettes for breakfast. How does that sound?"
" That sounds great!" Elizabeth smiled.
" I've got to lock up the cottage now." Rose said while she rested her hands on her hips. " Remember to bolt your bedroom door after I leave."
" Okay, would you like me to come with you?" Elizabeth asked before she put her slippers on. " I don't want you to check the cottage by yourself, it gets dark downstairs sometimes."
" Okay my love, let's be quick then." Rose replied.
Elizabeth took hold of Rose's hand while they left the bedroom, they walked around the cottage together. Elizabeth watched Rose checking the locks on the kitchen window before she drew the yellow curtains, she'd been on edge for the last few days. Elizabeth didn't blame her though, she was kind of frightened too. They left the kitchen together and bolted the front door, they would both be safe inside the cottage tonight.
" I think we're done down here, it's lights out." Rose said.
Elizabeth watched Rose turning each of the room's lights out, the downstairs part of the cottage was plunged into darkness. It felt eerie and quiet, she could hear nothing but the lounge's clock ticking and the odd hoot of an owl from the front garden. They hurried back upstairs and said goodnight to each other. Rose closed Elizabeth's door before she went to her own room, they both longed for the morning to come.
