Chapter 35!
Elizabeth ate her chips while she walked with Backup along the bridge near Houses of Parliament, it had just turned 7pm. The walkway on the bridge was fairly busy, the city of London was lit up with lights. They could hear the vehicles of the city driving across the bridge, they had visited most of the sights they wanted to see before they left England.
Elizabeth had enjoyed her day out with Backup even if he had embarrassed her on the Jack the Ripper tour. He had decided to linger at each location the victim's bodies had been found, he even analyzed each site by drawing the layout of each murder location on the back of his tour leaflet. He even drew the outline of the victim's bodies. They got a few odd stares when he pipped up several times, he told the tour guide that their information was wrong. Elizabeth sometimes forgot that he had read the original copies of the Jack the Ripper case files from 1888.
After that they went to Traeger Square, the Millennium Wheel and several of the serial killer locations Backup wanted to visit. They then visited a few shops in the town center. Elizabeth had brought herself some new clothes with the money she had earned at the orphanage, she wanted to treat herself out to a new outfit for the plane journey. But for now they were going to see the Houses of Parliament. Backup stopped halfway across the bridge to take in the view of the River Themes, he then took the empty chip papers from his friend's hand. He took something from the inside of his hoody and wrapped it up in the chip papers, he then threw it over the side of the bridge. Elizabeth looked over the banister of the bridge and watched the chip papers drop into the river, she had no idea what he was hiding from her. She watched him for a moment before she spoke.
" What was in the chip paper?" Elizabeth asked.
" Nothing important." He replied before he looked at her. " Just some unfinished business I needed to dispose of before we leave England."
" Oh, I see." Elizabeth said.
" Come on, it's getting cold now." He said, he took hold of her arm before he began leading her cross the bridge. " We should go back to the hotel and settle for the night, I don't want you to catch a chill."
" Oh you're so thoughtful!" Elizabeth joked, she playful nudged his arm. " But you're right, it's freezing tonight."
" We could have a nightcap before bed, but when I say nightcap I actually mean hot chocolate and any cake of your choice." He said with chuckle. " Doesn't that sound like a pleasant way to end our little adventure around London?"
" Sure, that does sounds nice." Elizabeth replied. " But what did you just wrap up in my chip papers?"
" Just some of my personal belongings, but let's keep your mind on more delightful things." He replied, he glanced over his shoulder. " I think you need some dessert after your dinner, what do you say to some ice cream or a tub of yogurt?"
" What are hiding from me?" Elizabeth asked.
" Nothing that concerns you, why don't we take a quick look at the Houses of Parliament before we walk back to the hotel." He replied. " You really have to learn not to question me, I sometimes wonder how I manage to tolerate being around you with your constant questioning..."
" Then why did you ask me to come with you?" Elizabeth asked.
" Do I really need to go over past conversations with you?" He asked.
" Backup, I wasn't born yesterday!" Elizabeth replied with a frown. " What did your wrap in those chip papers?!"
Backup stopped dead in his tracks, he let go of Elizabeth's arm and turned around to face her. He covered up her mouth with his hand and mumbled something under his breath, he then walked her backwards towards the banister of bridge. She felt the banister of the bridge press up against her back, he removed his hand from her mouth and tutted at her.
